Error getting into WSUS console - again!

I had this problem previously - and ended up replacing the database and updating everything and the console came back. Truthfully I did so many things I don't know what brought it back but at that time I know WSUS was not running correctly either.

Now it seems WSUS is running. Computers appear to be getting updates. WSUS is syncing and I get emails that it has synced. But I can get into the console.

I get the big RED X and the 'Error: Connection Error' message. I've tried 'Reset Server Node' and also tried removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\. When I do delete the preference file I get no server at all and when I try putting in the server name and the port (8530) it will not connect.

Also, all the services are running (WSUS, IIS, SQL).

Can someone help me out? Thanks

Here is the contents of the error message:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,

Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.
