Hello everybody,
I have set up a WSUS server in a virtual environment, so the WSUS is also a VM. Everything works so far with a Test-VM. My problem is now that I clone VMs or respectively create VM from a Template-VM. I want all VMs to get updates from this WSUS. I found out that the SUSIDs have to be different so that the WSUS can differantiate between the two clients. But now I figured out that if they have the same computername there will also be always only one VM which can be registered at the WSUS. The other VM with the same name can not register at the WSUS. I have a Workgroup Environment so I am not working with a domain.
The reason why the change of the computername of the VMs is not an option is, that they have all the software pre-installed and with it also an SQL instance. This SQL instance won't allow the change of the computername.
Therefore again the question: How can I update two VMs with the same computername (but different SUSID) with one WSUS? Is it even possible?
WSUS Server: Windows Server 2016 Std.
WSUS Client1: Windows 10 v1809 LTSC
