WSUS3 on SBS2008 No computers are listed

Total newbie, sorry.

I installed WSUS 3 over the original SUS that were included with SBS.  I used to watch them in the SBS console.  Now I am trying to view them in WSUS Admin.  The first step seems to be failing: getting the computers to even show up.

I used Group Policy to tell clients to use the sbserver, then verified the registry setting on a client or two.  The client computers including the server itself do not show up in any computer group or the all computers/any filter.

I moved the windows update repository using the wizard in the SBS console.  This may be when things stopped working.  I have verified in IIS the permissions and physical paths of all the subfolders for WSUS.  One possible clue: In IIS7, I click on the subfolders under WSUS Administration, then basic settings.  When I click on Test Settings, I get a BANG on Authorization, cannot verify access to path.  I tried following the suggestion, adding the domain\sbserver computer account to the folder permissions and giving it read access, but that did not fix the error.

On at least two clients (I'm concentrating on the server and my Windows 7 Pro machine) the event viewer coughs up from the WindowUpdateClient, EventID:25,Windows Update failed to check for updates with error 0x80244019.

I'm sure you need more info but not sure where to get it.
