Hello,
I've been having nothing but problems upgrading a server from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2 with WSUS service installed.
First, this is an upgrade to the operating system and the upgrade wizard mentioned nothing about any problems.
Second, the machine is also a Domain Controller
After OS upgrade is complete, WSUS does not work. Ok I spend several days trying to understand how to upgrade from the previous version (it is a supported upgrade path), but eventually give up.
I decide to perform an uninstall of the existing WSUS from the previous version using the Control Panel Remove Programs applet. The result was a dialog box stating that version of setup.exe was not compatible with the current version of windows then exists.
I then decide to try and do a manual uninstall, delete the IIS website, rename C:\WSUS folder, rename \Program files\Update Services folder, etc etc...
No way to get rid of internal database so I disable it and install SQL Express...
Over time this progressively got worse. There was a time when I would launch the WSUS applet, it would say you need to run some post installation steps.. OK, here is the information, ... it would chug away for about 5 minutes then report an error with a path to the log file with more details.
The log file complained about some component being older than what was needed to run ..
Now when I try to run post installation tasks the applet just crashes, the log file is created but nothing in it.
The database in SQL Express has been deleted too
This is a nightmare and have been unable to run WSUS in Windows 2012 since it has come out.
help!!!!!
How do I remove EVERYTHING about WSUS and start over without a freaking reinstall?
Dane!
