I have looked online for a solution but nothing I have tried has worked.
I have a server 2012 standard server (not R2). It is a DC and serves as DHCP, DNS, file storage, and WSUS.
When I first loaded it, I had an issue installing WSUS. The post installation steps failed. I followed articles I found her on technet advising deleting the IIS site and re-running the post installation steps. This worked and I was able to complete the post installation steps.
Just last week I checked WSUS to approve updates and the console would not load. I searched online for solutions and the recommendations were to re-install WSUS.
I reinstalled and since have been unable to complete the post installation tasks. Every time I try I get the "Failed to start and configure the WSUS service" error message.
I have tried every fix I found online and none of them works. I tried completely removing WID, IIS, and WSUS and reinstalling. I tried a dedicated SQL instance. I tried changing file permissions, removing registry keys. Non of this has worked.
Is there anything else I can try? Re-installing the OS is not an option. This is the only server in the domain and so demoting and re-installing WSUS (a suggestion I found) is also not an option.
