I have a strange issue with Office 2003 SP3 updates & Windows XP SP3.
300 out of the 1400 clients fails with error 0x80070643 on office 2003 SP3 updates only:
- KB2539581
- KB2597112
- KB2553084
I can install the updates without problems when I logon with an Administrator account via WSUS or manual.
I have already verified if the The Microsoft Office Source Engine (Ose.exe) is not disabled. I have also replaced the Ose.exe file on the failed workstations but this didn't help anything.
Please advice because this is a generic error. Users are not administrator on their workstations neither on the working as the non-working. OS security updates work without any problems. This looks like a permission issue with Office 2003?
Reinstall of Office is not an option.
