Hello all,
On my old wsus servers wsus01 I have 2000 clients reporting to it. The WSUS was corrupt because it couldn't update Windows 2012 or 8 machines and the patch didn't work. The server was getting old as well so I decided to create a new one on VM. The machine name is vmwsus01. To make things easier I create a DNS alias for vmwsus01 which has the same IP address as WSUS.
I use group policy to have my clients report to WSUS. I have shutdown the old server. It's been a week and only 147 machines report to the new servers. I'm missing over 1000 machines. I have flushed the dns on the domain controllers, I have ran gpupdate /force on my client machines and ipconfig /flushdns, the clients can ping the server and nslookup sees the alias. i do a gpresult /r and it shows my group policy in effect.
When I run wuauclt.exe /detectnow in cmd or from the run command nothing happens.
Any ideas as why so many clients aren't reporting to the new server? If the clients are registered on the old WSU does something have to happen on the clients to see the new vmwsus?
