Hello!
I have an existing WSUS infrastructure setup that works very well. I am running it on Win2K8 R2 Enterprise.
We have a main office in IL USA, and a remote office in Germany.
I have my clients in the States configured for WSUS by use of group policy with Client-Side targeting. However, my German machines are using built in default WSUS policies, and that will not work, our users do not have admin rights to install.
So I need to manage the machines using group policy of some sort...
Here is my inquiry; In Germany, we have mostly laptop users, who aren't in the office very often... rather than having them VPN in to get updates, I am wondering if it is possible to have the German mobile users report to my WSUS server in the states, but download the updates from a Microsft mirror in Germany, rather than over the VPN from our WSUS server.
I was told that I needed to setup a downstream server in Germany, and configure it to grab the updates from MS, and then send to the laptop users, but the same issue remains, that they are not online all the time, and have crummy bandwidth...
It was also suggested that we just use local group policy for the German users, which would work for awhiloe, but won't scale well....
What should I do?
