I am having an issue installing WSUS 3.0 SP1 on Windows Server 2008. I have installed per the specs listed below.......
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 with the following components enabled:
•Windows Authentication
•ASP.NET
•6.0 Management Compatibility
•IIS Metabase Compatibility
Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005
Using an external SQL DB on a SQL 2005 SP2 server.
At the end of the install, I click FINISH and then receive this error.....
"An error occurred when trying to perform a database operation, and this wizard must be closed. You may restart the WSUS Server Configuartion Wizard form the Options page in the WSUS 3.0 console." I click OK and then receive this error "Microsoft.UpdateServices.UI.OOBEWizard.exe has stopped working" and I am given the option to check online for a solution or to close the program.
When I open the console and try to connect to the server I receive this message....."Cannot connect to 'MyServer'. SQL server may not be running on the server. Please verify the SQL Server is running and configured correctly on the server. Contact you network Administrator...blah...blah"
I see that the installation has created the new database on my SQL server.....and has created tables within the database.....so I really don't think its a Sql communication error. It looks like it may be looking for something on the local server and just not finding it?? I have install the SQL 2005 Client Connectivity piece and installed SQL SP2 on the WSUS server in hopes that it would help...but it didn't. I have this running Successfully on Windows 2003 server, but I just can't get it to work with Windows 2008. Anybody have any ideas?
