Hello, I wonder why KB2770917 (2012-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 6.2) contains more fixes than KB2779768 (2012-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 6.2). For example the december package does not conain the battc.sys file. Are there known problems with the november package? KB2787757 does not seem to be the reason? The supersedence information in WSUS also seem to be contradictorily.

Nicknames or Descriptions
Is there a way to view the computer description through wsus or a way to assign nicknames to machines so we can easily look at a machine and know who the owner is. What have 7 different locations all reporting to one sus server. We use the service tag of the machine as its computer name and put the users name in the computer description field. I would like to be able to view the computer description infomation on the main view so I can quickly look and identify a machine.
Thanks
Ian
Error 13042 after uninstalling Sharepoint
I have a Server 2008 R2 that I had a install of Sharepoint 2013 on and after uninstalling Sharepoint I am getting a WSUS error of 13042.
I had not done my homework fully on the compatibilities of Sharepoint and WSUS during the install so I have tried to go though all the other articles on Error 13042 and see if those will help and so far no. I have Anonymous Access enabled and I don't have SSL on. Also, there is no Sharepoint site in IIS7.
I was wondering where else Sharepoints could have gotten it's hooks even after a uninstall and reinstall of WSUS. On the reinstall of WSUS I did make WSUS have it's own site in IIS and that at least got me working to let clients connect and download updates.
Thanks for any help
XP Clients getting SOAP errors and taking an age to sync with WSUS server
Hi,
We currently have NAP configured to ensure Windows Updates are installed. Unfortunately it is taking 10-20 minutes for WSUS to finish confirming there are no updates to install, so the clients are being restricted whilst that happens.
Here is an example from one of the clients which is suffering with the issue:

Things I have already tried to resolve the issue from searching on here, etc.
- Ran the Microsoft Fixit tool @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
- Stopped the BITS & Automatic Updates services and then manually deleted the C:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and \Download folder. Then restarted the Automatic Updates and BITS Services
- Stopped Automatic Updates & Bits services, deleted the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\SusClientID & SusClientValidation keys and then restarted Automatic Updates and BITS Services. I then ran a wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
Neither of the above have fixed the issue. All of the clients were sysprepped. The downstream WSUS server is running Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2
Can anyone help me with regards to the issue, or what I can do to resolve it? Have I been trying the wrong things?
Thanks in advance for your help.
WSUS - Update Status Showing as Not Applicable but update is installed
I am trying to remove an update that have been installed by WSUS. The update is KB2592687 - RDP 8.0 client.
I have set the update to "Approved for removal" and a date in the past - to force the removal ASAP.
When I run a report based on the update, most clients that have the update installed (by WSUS) now show a status of Not Applicable. Why would this happen? Is there a way that the removal can be forced?
Windows Update fails to run on Server 2008 R2
We have a WSUS that this server should be getting updates from but recently it failed.
OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1
I use this server for my network backups and recently I was getting Windows Update Errors when trying to run it. My WSUS is configured with SCCM 2012 that has Software Update Point Role.
I confirmed BITS/Cyrptographic/Software Protection/Windows Update services were set to Automatic and started.
Registered Relevant .DLL(s) according MS for Windows Updates
Tried running the following:

I am not having issues on any other server/client so I know it relates to this machine locally.

WSUS and SCCM 2012
Hi,
I currently have WSUS 3 SP2 running on a Windows 2008 server in my domain and all works great. I am going to be installing SCCM 2012 this year and I've read different things about WSUS and SCCM and wasn't quite sure what the best practice was for the two of them. Hopefully someone can answer the following questions:
Should I leave my WSUS installation on the seperate server alone or should I put WSUS on the same server as SCCM? If so will I have to re-setup my WSUS database?
Will I need to do anything with my domain GP about updates?
Will I need to reselect which updates are downloaded, approved?
Thanks,
Nick
All WSUS Clients Stopped Reporting in on 2/18/2013
Hello,
We have ~600 computers in our WSUS setup. All of the systems have stopped reporting in as of 2/18/2013. I'm not entirely sure what has changed because I'm only allowed to remote into the server for WSUS administration. The people who do manage the servers say that they haven't changed anything, but obviously something has changed.
The clients are all getting an error code of 800710DD (screenshot):
Here's a copy of the update log from a client as well.

(WUSP)SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx return error, 403 Forbidden
Hi,all
I'm trying to develop WUA client by using WUSP protocol. As you know ,there are three parts in WUSP protocol, including Client web service, Simple auth web service and reporting web service.
Everything is OK when I use Client web service method such as GetConfig to comminucate with https://www.update.microsoft.com/v6/ClientWebService/client.asmx.
However I meet trouble when I use Simple auth web service(GetAuthorizationCookie) to get authorization cookie from https://www.update.microsoft.com/v6/SimpleAuthWebService/SimpleAuth.asmx. The server always return 403 Forbidden.
I have no idea about this error. Is the server url invalid ? Or other mistake?
Thank you for your attention.

WSUS syncronization - DB error
I have WSUS 3 SP2 on Windows 2008 R2. It configured to work with Windows Internal Database and obtain updates from remote WSUS server.
2 days ago happen an error while syncronizing with parent WSUS. Process doing up to 93% and ends with: "SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding " and than "System.Security.SecurityException: Request for principal permission failed".
Parent WSUS server works properly and syncronizing from MS WU with no errors.
I tryed to run WSUS DB Re-Index script, but it has no effect.
I use Symantec Backup Exec and have full backup of WSUS server on it. I was restored server from backup, including DB and System State, but when I start manual syncronization, I got the same errors.
However, before error, WSUS DB has size 3,9 GB. While last syncronizing, size of DB increased to 4GB. Maybe there are DB size limit in Windows Internal Database?
Please help.
IE 10 installa automatically on windows 7
Hi,
As far as I know IE 10 is not for Windows 7. But my WSUS is installing IE10 automatically on Win 7 32 and 64 machines. It also makes some issues. Any clue to work it out?
Many thanks,

Cannot install WSUS on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
I've been spending 2 very frustrating weeks attempting to install WSUS on a new Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 box. First, the install bombed with a message informing me that IIS could not be installed because of "network connection error". There
is no network connection problem on this box. So, I installed IIS separately--successfully too, if you can believe it.
Then, I returned to the WSUS install. Once again, the WSUS role install says it needs to install IIS, which is already installed. So I allow the WSUS role addition to install IIS again. Once again, the WSUS install bombs because "IIS could
not be installed".
Is this what MS calls progress? I've never had trouble installing either WSUS or IIS on Windows Server 2003. What is wrong with W2k8? I need an MS expert to pipe in here please.
Thanks.
Could not find remote SQL Server - what permissions do I need?
Hi,
I am trying to specify my SQL instance for WSUS on Windows Server 2012 but I keep getting an error staging the SQL Server could not be found (That standard error). The user I am installing/adding this role as, does have SQL permissions on the sql server (dbcreator/security admin).
What else does he need?
Some servers not patching during expected patch windows
Hi everyone,
I have a very limited patch window to do updates in, and I've run across some problems, and wanted to ask if anyone has a solution.
The behavior is simple, the server gets the patch from wsus - and then for some reason it decides that it cannot run the patch during the current patch window, and must run it during the next.
These patches need to be manually tripped - basically i have to RDP into the server and manually start the patch process. Running Wuauclt /updatenow will sometimes also work, but doing it through the interface works 100% of the time.
I'd like to avoid these cases, they take time away from reporting and have caused a few cases where I was getting close to my deadline because a lot of these popped up. It is frustrating, because month to month this will happen on different servers, it never seems to have any sort of pattern. It has happened on server 2008 R2 and server 2003 boxes as well, virtual, or no.
Here's an example from the last patch cycle. Keep in mind, a patching window is currently open when this message is presented, every Tuesday between 9 PM and 11 PM. (unfortunately, we aren't allowed to patch the servers inside this patch group on any
other day but the last Tuesday of every month, and they must be successful.)

How do I prevent servers getting/installing updates from the internet but continue to get SCCM 2012 Windows Updates?
Hi,
We are using SCCM 2012 with SP1 to deploy Windows Update. How do I make sure that my servers won't get automatic updates (the default 3AM rule) without preventing SCCM to deploy updates to them?
I checked my servers and the current status is turn off. But I want to make sure this never gets enabled by accident. OTherwise my servers will be downloading and installing updates at 3am.
Thanks!
Strange twist on update error 0x80072EFD
Some background:
I have a WSUS server at a remote location running on 2008R2. This WSUS server has been working perfectly until 2/6/13. Doing research on this has revealed this is typically a network connection issue as the error means ERROR_INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT.
However, this is not the case. If I open IE and try to browse to <servername>.<domain>.local from a client workstation I get the standard IIS7 welcome screen. I have also tried <servername>.<domain>.local/selfupdate/iuident.cab and I am able to download the iuident.cab file. So obviously the clients can reach the wsus machine.
Although I was sure it would not work since my DNS is working properly, I tried changing from the FQDN to the IP address in the Group Policy settings. As I suspected, this did not resolve the issue.
I have followed the steps in KB836941 with no success

I am really kind of lost at this point. I have other remote locations that are configured the same that are working perfectly, so that *should* rule out a parent GPO interfering with WSUS at this location.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael
