I have some Server 2012 machines I need to update. I created a new update view by product (Server2012), approved all updates to my group, server installs all updates, all seems happy.

after a /report now the server reports it's missing some patches - circa 54. In the report they're designated as not approved.

If I go back to my update view, there are no unapproved patches for Server2012.

What am I missing here? Here's an example of a machine report after approving all 2k12 based patches : http://imgur.com/OSGb5j6

One example from that patch is https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2798162?wa=wsignin1.0, which is perplexing why it's not been included in the product view.

We have a small maintenance Windows to install Windows Updates on many servers.

It is very time consuming to have to manually access each server via Remote Desktop, click on the GUI and wait for updates to slowly install and then go back to them when the machines are ready for the restart to reboot them.

We can't use WSUS deadlines either because we would have to go back to the WSUS console and remove the deadlines after the maintenance Window is over to make sure that there are no unexpected reboots in the future (when new servers are added that are missing updates that have deadlines in the past) and that would be very labor intensive and time consuming.

Is there a command line that we can either manually run remotely or else set as a scheduled task that would initiate the  installation of updates 20 minutes before the maintenance window starts, but not do any automatic rebooting?

This would save us a ton of time because at the maintenance Window comes, all we would need to do is initiate the restarts remotely using "shutdown -I" for groups of servers that can be offline at the same time (all domain controllers cannot restart at the same time, VM hosts cannot all restart at the same time and VM hosts and VM guests cannot restart at the same time etc.).  Once a group servers are back online, we could do the same for the next group of computers until they are all done.

If we didn't have to Remote Desktop into each server and manually start the updates and then wait around for the updates to install before rebooting, it would probably cut down the amount of time it takes to install updates by two thirds.

Hi, I have 2008 r2 upstream and 2012 downstream recently added. after that, wsuscontent folder is growing very very fast. I have checked downstream 2012, it is autonomous and only English language is selected, I have run cleanup wizard. no luck

any advise?

Since we have approved patches on 11th Dec 2012 for our test platform , all the test servers have been  rebooting everyday.

I see that it is caused possibly by these 2 updates 

KB3004394 and KB3024777

It seems that they are getting istalled in the cycle. One day KB3004394 installs and other day KB3024777 install to remove it .

But soon after the server detects that KB3004394 is unavailable and installs it again then KB3024777 removes it  and so on.

I saw in the WSUS console and found that KB3004394 is chnaged to Not Approved.

Do i have to decline to stop this reboot cycle.

If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated with this node might be removing the right.

WINDOWS 2008 SERVER / wsus Server Version 3.2.7600.251 / I've run the Wizard several times over the past couple of weeks and it never deleted any unused content files / doesn't seem right  ....any ideas?

A fresh Setup of a wsus 2012 (not R2) Server doesnt create the Win7Sp1\wsus3setup.cab Folder/File, so the Win7 and 2008 R2 Clients cannot Report to the wsus 2012 Server.

The Folder Win7SP1 under the Standard path doesnt exist:

C:\Program Files\Update Services\SelfUpdate\WSUS3\x64 => There are only 2 Folders Vista and other...

Question:

Does anybody knows  the reason?

Can I rebuild it manually with the wsusutil.exe tool?

One addtitional info: After the Setup the postinstallation process fails, and I had to fix it with the following article:

I am attempting to move WSUS from a functional Windows 2008 R2 server to a Windows Server 2012 R2 environment.  There are no connection problems to the old server.  However, I cannot get clients - including the Win2012 server itself - to connect to WSUS.  The logs on the two machines I have been testing with show 404 errors, and the connection attempt ends with an error code of 80244019.  I have set up WSUS in a test environment, as well, and receive the same errors.  Any assistance would be very welcome.

Hello all

On a SBS 2011 server WSUS content folder was over 110GB in size and it was eating up disk space.

I attempted to use native tools but it crashed after few days of running.  Then I tired using several scripts from TechNet those failed as well.

I declined all superseded updates before running the above tasks but it only managed to free up 5-7 Gb s and that's all.

Since there was nothing much to be done I followed the folliwong article and deleted the content within the WSUS content folder.

Its over 4-5 days now and I can not see WSUS content folder getting populated and I also can not access SBS console/WSUS console because both crashes after 10-15 minutes while attempting to get information from WSUS.

Server report generation also is not working and when attempted to generate the report manually SBS console crashes.

I m thinking or repairing WSUS as Per the following article but I would like to know if any one has any other suggestions for me to get this issue sorted out.

Hi,

I have a 2008 R2 WSUS server that was working and patching fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled WSUS as I wanted to clean up the considerable amount of old update files. I inherited the WSUS job and this server was just a bit too messy so I thought a fresh WSUS would be less time consuming.

After the reinstall though no clients report to the server anymore. I can ping the server, and hit it via IE. If I try update a client I get the common error 80072EFD. I have the latest log from WindowsUpdate.log

It appears that on 8/1/14 Windows update agent 7.6.7600.320 was installed on the servers that will no longer update. Do you have any recommendations on how to fix this as I can not update these servers  I could not send the entire log

lasst week i have update patch my windows 2012 server .so let me know which WSUS patch need to remove for resolve this..

So I am testing out a new WSUS server on Server 2012 R2.

This has been working fine for a few weeks and downloading updates from MS with no problems.

However from the 8th December on-wards it now fails.

I checked to see if any updates had been installed on the 7th and there was one so I uninstalled it but still the same problem.

The error is as follows:

Hi for everyone.

I want to now from other people expirience can I check skype for windows in Wsus Product and Clasifications but I nead only option that update existing skype installation on clients computers?

In Product Clasifications I have two option for skype - Skype and Skype for windows. What is difference when I check Skype only or both... ?

I dont want to install Skype to all computers just update for existing skype installations. Is this posible over Wsusbecause Iheard thatthere was a problem when skype is enabled over wsus - after that skype wasinstalledon allcomputers?

I've gone through every forum I could find, every updated patch required, but noting seems to be working.  I've had this problem for months and now I'm desperate to get it resolved.

I have WSUS running (Svr2K8 Std R2), it's fully synchronizing with Windows Update without any [noticeable] problems.  I built numerous client VMs, most of them from scratch (so not clones off eachother).  They were able to check in to WSUS originally, I could see the installed packages, as well as the not-installed/approved packages.  After about 1 or 2 days, all of a sudden, the clients would report 0 installed, 0 pending, etc. in WSUS.  I would then try to run "Check for Updates" manually and it would come back as Green, even though without touching either box for days (other than the auto-synchronization), WSUS said it had pending packages.  I've run wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow /reportnow probably dozens of times (each time waiting at least 1 hour), but still the same result.

I have told WSUS to approve every single package in the repo, so it's not that there aren't approved packages that the boxes couldn't find.

My WSUS server is currently running: 3.2.7600.256
I've installed the following patches mentioned all over the Internet:

Many things concern me about this, especially the "Found 0 updates in 0 categories in search".  I haven't seen anywhere in my searches for this error...so I have no idea what is going on with this thing.
