WSUS breaks after KB3148812 and KB3159706

My WSUS breaked after installing KB3148812. I did some repair actions but couldn't get it run again. Then I read about KB3159706 and installed this fix. I also followed the additional manual installation steps (wsusutil postinstall /servicing etc.) but without any success.

At the end I completely removed the WSUS installation, KB3148812, double checked to remove all of remaining registry settings, files in %programfiles% and the content directory and KB3159706, too.

The I did a fresh install of KB3159706. After that a fresh install of WSUS:

Install-WindowsFeature-NameUpdateServices-IncludeManagementTools

did the postinstall task

wsusutil.exe postinstall CONTENT_DIR=D:\Updates

Checked, if "HTTP activation" is installed and the part with web-config is correct.

Then I did according to the manual steps

wsusutil.exe postinstall /servicing

Log file is located at ...\tmpDF06.tmp
Post install is starting
Post install has successfully completed

But when I start the console I couldn't connect to the MS-Content servers.

I checked the logfile from servicing part (tmpDF06.tmp) and found this:

2016-05-1018:52:12Install type is:Reinstall2016-05-1018:52:12Install type isReinstall, but should be Upgrade.Cannot service the database2016-05-1018:52:12Swtching DB to multi-user mode......

Is that okay or causing the error?

What can I do to get my WSUS up and running again? Fresh install of WSUS, patches and so on is okay, but I couldn't reinstall the server itself.

TIA for any useful hints

Udo

DB reindex on server 2012R2

Hello

We have installed WSUS and Server 2012R2. We would like to re-index the database. The only Microsoft document I've found on this procedure does not include Server 2012R2. Additionally any document I have found requires tools to be installed on the server that show incompatibility errors.

Thus we cant run the "WSUSDBmaintenace" Script.

can anyone offer advice on This

Server:Windows 2012R2

WSUS version: 6.3.96....

using internal database

Thanks

WSUS Breaks after KB3159706, released 5/5/2016

Hey all, just installed KB3159706 on my WS 2012 R2 WSUS Server at 2PM on 5/5/2016.  This was supposed to fix/issues when KB3148812 was released a few weeks ago.  Don't install KB3159706, it breaks WSUS.

C'mon Microsoft, get your stuff together.  I'm tired of this amateur hour BS.

WSUS Server: Rollout Language packages

Hi all,

I am facing a problem with our WSUS Server with which I am not sure how to handle that.

So here is the case:
We have a lot of Win10 Pro Clients that are connected to our WSUS Server. Since we have a lot of German and English speaking colleagues, we want to use the improved possibility to switch languages with the language packs in Win10 pro. So what I did is I activated the language packs in the WSUS Products an classifications and declined all language packs except German and English. This is working fine, all clients can now download the language packages if needed.

But the problem I now have is, that for example a Win10 Client with German OS is listed in the WSUS Server with 1 needed update. When I check the report it is showing me the updated "German Language Pack - Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64 KB 3109596". I am sure that on an English OS it will show me the English Language Pack as missing (haven't testet that yet".

So far I've read a lot of threats and they all advice to decline the language packs for it to not show up as needed Update. But of course I would not want to do that because we want them to be downloaded over the WSUS Server.

How can we manage this correctly? I don't seem to be able to install the German Language Pack on an German OS, it is not shown in the Windows Update or Language section on the client.

Can someone help me out on that? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Michael

DFRS Error

My exact issue due to this error code no any client can connect my server.

I think may be due to below DFRS error:-

The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the folder with the following local path: C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain. This server has been disconnected from other partners for 534 days, which is longer than the time allowed by the MaxOfflineTimeInDays parameter (120). DFS Replication considers the data in this folder to be stale, and this server will not replicate the folder until this error is corrected.

To resume replication of this folder, use the DFS Management snap-in to remove this server from the replication group, and then add it back to the group. This causes the server to perform an initial synchronization task, which replaces the stale data with fresh data from other members of the replication group.

Additional Information:
Error: 9061 (The replicated folder has been offline for too long.)
Replicated Folder Name: SYSVOL Share
Replicated Folder ID: 44F1DC5E-7382-47D2-BBD3-E374EAB7F916

Could you please Help me out.

WSUS client(s) keeps reverting back to the old server address - will not update

A while back i migrated WSUS to a new machine - and all clients were reporting properly. Now i have a couple of different issues:

1. a handful of clients that continue to hold the old server address in the WUServer registry key - i search thru and change it to the new address in each key that needs it and then reboot and the old setting is still there after the reboot. I have the proper server in GPEDIT. The Windows update log file shows it's still looking to the old server

2. a couple fo clients that even though they have the correct server in the  WUServer registry key the Windows update log still shows them trying to contact the old server address

I've tried the MS Fixit thing but it always fails for resetting the update components. I've tried to delete all files out of the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution directory but it says some files are in use and wont let me delete everything out

any help and suggestions are appreciated

thank you

Any way to Export the hierarchy list of Products and which ones are selected?

Is there any way to export a list of products that would look similiar to the GUI and show them in a hierarchy structure and which ones are selected and which ones aren't?  I want to run something on a couple of our domains so I can easily compare the settings between them and document our standards without having to take 15 screenshots of all the pages in the GUI.

I know I can run get-wsusproduct to get a list but it doesn't show me which ones are selected or the hierarchy.

Thanks.

Still having problems after installing 3159706

I’m still having problems with this.

KB3148812 had been installed and WSUS stopped working, clients were unable to check for updates. Did some research and uninstalled it.

Later installed 3159706 via Windows Update – no restart notification displayed but WSUS was still not starting (saw a ‘Reset server node’ message which did not work). Rebooted, Server Manager flagged WSUS Service as not started on restart, but a refresh showed it was started. Ran WSUS, but saw same message.

Copied error and followed recommendation to delete wsus file at %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\. WSUS now starts, but the server was not listed. Chose to connect to the server but an error message about SQL not running was displayed (port is correct: 8530). All SQL services seem to be running.

Any suggestions, please?

Thanks

Win10 1511, how do we force an automatic install

We can approve the Win10 1511 update for computers. This only seems to stage the upgrade on the system and won't apply it without initiation from within the Window Update client on the system.

Does anyone know how to automate it?

Post Installation Tasks of WSUS fail

After a nightmare of trying to install and uninstall SQL Server 2008 R2 on my DC, WSUS broke.

I edited the registry to get rid of the SQL Server stuff and uninstalled WSUS and rebooted.

I reinstalled WSUS using WID database and now I get the following error at the end of the log file during post-installation:

Question regarding re-release of the patches that are included in MS16-064

We have discovered that Microsoft Security Bulletin MS16-064 - Security Update for Adobe Flash Player (3157993) (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/MS16-064) was revised on May 13th (V2.0) at which time they replaced update 3157993 with 3163207.

Will there be new release update for Wsusscn2.cab soon to include this changes which were made to MS16-064 ?

wsus prevent clients from downloading updates during work hours

I have an issue where i have setup the AD GPO "Limit the maximum network bandwidth for bits background transfer"  0kbbs from 7am to 6 pm and at all other times use all available unused bandwidth but clients are still downloading update from wsus during work hours. It's dragging our network. Anyway i can track this down and prevent it from happening? We have 99.9% windows 7 PCs. Thanks.

There's no connectivities issues, the fixit found the problen but cannot repair it.

WSUS 2008R2 Synchronizations tab crash

Hello all,

I have a problem with WSUS on a Server 2008 R2 computer. Everytime I want to look at the synchronizations that have been done, WSUS seems to crash. It keeps hanging while loading the synchronizations, after a few min I get an error with: Reset server node. The server is a downstream server of another 2008 R2 server. Even reinstalling the WSUS role didn't help, neither did the WSUS Clean up wizard. What could be the problem? Everything else seems to work fine.

Non domain servers not checking into WSUS server after April 2016 updates

Our WSUS server is running Server 2012 R2.  Everything appeared to be working fine before I released the May 2016 updates, and then after the May updates installed and servers rebooted the WSUS console did not work and clients could not check into the WSUS server.  After some research I found that KB3159706 was the problem and that there were post installation steps that needed to be done.  I followed those steps from the KB article:  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706
After doing those steps everything started to work correctly again or at least almost everything.

I just realized the other day that servers(2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2) that are not part of our domain stopped checking into our WSUS server after the April 2016 updates.  What do I need to do to get those servers to start checking back into our WSUS server?

Can I unapprove all updates for one computer group?

I manage Windows Updates for a 6th - 12th grade school.  I just reinstalled WSUS after its server crashed and the database became completely corrupted.  I realize now that as I am approving updates, I should have exempted the "Unassigned Computers"  when I approved updates.  Is there a way that I could go back and remove the approval for all the updates for all the computers in that group?
