Windows Server 2012 R2 Issues with WSUS
So, when verifying that a few of our PCs were up to date, I got Windows Update error (0x80244022) on all of the PCs. I had not been involved with the WSUS setup or maintenance until last week.
I logged into the server and found that there were almost 200k updates (set to manually approve) that hadn't been approved/installed, and the last update that WSUS had pushed out was at least 10 months ago.
Using some of the scripts and such that I found on TechNet, I was able to get to the point that it didn't lose connection (refresh Node loop) every time I tried to see the updates, and I was able to successfully approve all of the critical updates, but the Security updates are not loading successfully. Also, in using the server cleanup wizard, it removed all of the PCs/Servers as they had not communicated with the WSUS server in months. It is setup through GPO and using PSTools, I remotely ran gpupdate /force on all devices in the domain, with no change to the WSUS server device count (ran that about 20 hours ago, still no change). I also ran
wuauclt/reportnow
wuauclt/detectnow
wuauclt/downloadnow
on my PC with no change.
Below are the last 50 or so lines of windowsupdate.log (from my PC), hopefully someone can give me a definitive answer to this, as I have been working on this for more than a week now.

Many Clients Not yet report
Hi
I have a WSUS server 2012 R2: 6.3.9600.18838, I've done a .bat to make the clients to connect to my server, after the .bat, the client contact the server, but it don't report, the .bat I've done with many links in the web:
@echo on
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v AccountDomainSid /f
REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v PingID /f

REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientIdValidation /f

ren c:\windows\WindowsUpdate.log c:\windows\WindowsUpdate.old
net start bits
net start wuauserv
wuauclt /a /resetauthorization /detectnow
WUAUCLT /r /reportnow
Well, the rename for WindowsUpdate.log does not work...
I'm worried because I don't know what is wrong, in the WSUS console, appear the machine but with "Last Status Report" like "Not yet report".
This is the "WindowsUpdate.log" after running the .bat:

I've installed "HTTP Activation" in the server manager for .NET Framework 4.5 and 3.5 in the WSUS Server
So I have some questions:
1.- Why the .bat don't rename the WindowsUpdate.log?
2.- Did I missed a KB for the WSUS? because I couldn't find a place that shows me the neccesaries KB for WSUS 2012 R2
3.- What else can I do?
In Advanced thank you.

WSUS: old Update missing or superseeded? in WSUS
Hi Guys,
We had last Months a Security Audit in our Company, after this we receive a result about our Server Environment, the Audit found that all our server are missed Security Update from 2011-2015 this:
https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/security-updates/SecurityBulletins/2011/ms11-025
https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/security-updates/SecurityBulletins/2015/ms15-011
https://docs.microsoft.com/de-de/security-updates/SecurityBulletins/2015/ms15-124
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4072699/windows-security-updates-and-antivirus-software
, so now our question is how i can install this missing Patches, i try the classic Way, Microsoft Update Catalog: but after import they dint are listed in WSUS, see above:
Its possible that this listed security Patches are superseeded?
Thanks Support
2012 - 0x8000FFFF
Having some issues installing 1803 on Win 10 machines via a 2012 WSUS Server.
We have 2012R2 and 2016 WSUS Servers which seem to be fine and all clients are updating via these, but a few sites have a 2012 WSUS Server and all appear to fail with 0x8000FFFF.
I've confirmed the KB is installed that allows 2012 to cater for Win 10 feature upgrades, ran the <g class="gr_ gr_253 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" data-gr-id="253" id="253">postinstall</g> /servicing (and restarted WSUS), and added the .esd MIME type to IIS.
Pointing a machine on this site to update via one of our 2016 servers allows the update to be installed as expected, so this only appears to be an issue with 2012.
Any ideas?
Patches don't download (WSUS & Windows Update) Error 0x80200011 BITS Download job failed because of insufficient range support
We have an Active Directory domain (Win 2012 R2 DCs) that uses a Proxy Server ('Squid', ver. 3.5.20, on Linux) to reach the internet. There's a WSUS server (also Win 2012 R2) to handle patching. Patch Server has 17 GB free on C:, 174 GB free on D: (where it stores downloaded patches). It uses the Windows Internal Database and does not download the actual patch files until they are approved.
It had apparently been working fine, but at some point it started failing to download patches. It synchronizes directly from Microsoft Update with no errors, gets the patch list, displays applicable patches, and we approve them. Then it starts trying to download them and fails. Application Log shows Event ID 364 Task Category 2 "Content file download failed. Reason: The server did not return the file size. The URL might point to dynamic content. The Content-Length header is not available in the server's HTTP reply". BITS looks like it's running, but the state says 'Ignores_Shutdown'. I tried building a clean new VM with the intent of setting up a new WSUS server to experiment with. It is not joined to the domain. I tried to patch it directly from Microsoft Update, not going through my WSUS server. It fails to download patches. The failure looks like the same problem the WSUS server is having, but the error code is 0x80200011. The WindowsUpdate.log file looks like the BITS job is being built correctly - at least, it seems to be pointing at the proxy server correctly - but every download job has a 'Download job failed because of insufficient range support' error. I asked the network / proxy guys if the proxy server supports http 1.1, specifically the Range Request feature, but that have not responded.

Server 2012 R2 gets superseded updates instead of superseding ones
Newly Server 2012 r2 installed on a vm gets superseded updates instead of superseding ones which are approved too.Even if I decline those superseded the client won't gets the superseding ones.
Why this happens and how can I solve that?
Do I need anything regarding superseded update expiration after declining it or not?
Edit:I noticed updating windows from microsoft also contain superseded updates. If there is a newer update which supersedes old one why the old one should install?

Trying to return values that are not 0 only
I have this code to show me machines' failed count only. But I only want to see values that are greater than zero, meaning if they actually have failed patches. Here is my code.
Import-Module -Name UpdateServices$wsus = [Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.AdminProxy]::GetUpdateServer();
$updatescope = New-Object Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.UpdateScope
$computerscope = New-Object Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.ComputerTargetScope
$wsus.GetSummariesPerComputerTarget($updatescope,$computerscope) | Format-Table -hidetableheaders @{L='ComputerTarget';E={($wsus.GetComputerTarget([guid]$_.ComputerTargetId)).FullDomainName}},@{L='FailedCount';E={($_.DownloadedCount + $_.FailedCount)}}
How can I get the 0 values to be hidden?

WSUS 3.0 SP2 installation fails at "configuring database" step.
Attempting to install WSUS 3.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise system. I'm asking the setup to create a new database on one of our existing SQL Server 2005 systems. When the setup gets to the "configuring database" step it stops and throws "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." The two logs it suggests I look at are below. I'm not seeing any errors that mean anything to me.
Any direction you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Last Status report of Windows 7 clients show "Not yet reported"
Hi,
Most of the Windows 7 clients shows "Not yet reported" status in WSUS whereas I can see "Last contact". Also when I try to run check for updates in such clients it throws 80244019 error. Can let me know why it is not reporting? The GPOs and RSOP points to right server. Thanks.
This Computer has not reported status yet
Hi,
I have installed WSUS 3.2 in Windows 2008 R2 server on June 25th and created GPO to point all the clients to WSUS. I see most of the clients computers listed under WSUS computers list. But the problem is more than 50% of clients status shows has "Not Yet Reported".
I have carried out the below steps to fix it, but still it is not working.
1 - Force Detection of Updates and Report to the WSUS Server: wuauclt.exe /detectnow /reportnow
2 - Cleanup all cached files and force detection:
net stop wuauserv
rmdir /S /Q C:\Windows\softwaredistribution
net start wuauserv
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow
3 - Stopped the BITS and the Windows Update service removed registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
"SusClientId"
Restarted the machine
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow
4 - Done SID refresh by running Sysprep.exe and forced to report the clients on WSUS (wuauclt.exe /reportnow)
After all these steps still client shows has Not yet reported.
thanks

Thanks, Palani
Windows Server 2016 - WSUS Clients - WindowsUpdateFailure3, 1001, 0x8024500c
The WSUS Server itself is running Windows Server 2016 DataCenter.
The clients on our network are Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 10 Professional, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows Server 2016 Standard, Windows Server 2016 DataCenter and Windows Server 2008 R2 DataCenter.
Only my Windows Server 2016 clients are having this issue.
I've tried clearing the SoftwareDistrib folder, reregistering DLLs, re-indexing the SQL database, rebooting several times, etc.
Our AD Group Policies are as such that INTERnet-based WSUS are prohibited as we want all updates to come from the local server.
The WSUS server itself shows no signs of sync issues or issues downloading the actual updates. I am at an absolute loss here.

Autonomous downstream server benefits
We have implemented a WSUS server which does not locally store update files.
A customer now wants to implement an autonomous downstream server, using our server as its upstream server.
I am struggling to see any benefit in this scenario over them just implementing their own upstream server. Am I missing something?
