WSUS Language Packs

Hi

My environment consist of 1 primary upstream server located in the USA and 3 downstream servers located in Europe. I am not familiar with the process of deploying language packs. I know I need to enable them for download on my upstream server and then on the download servers that they are applicable.

What exactly does enabling language pack do? Am I correct in stating that patches will be downloaded in the language(Italian) of the pack selected. Or is language pack just one patch in the language specified?

Also if I approve the patch in (Italian) will it only install on applicable computers(that our in Italian or to all computers including the ones in English?

Forcing a client to initiate an update

Is it possible to use Powershell from a remote computer to force a client to initiate an update to a WSUS server or force detect clients so they can report to WSUS ?

Or

How do I set GPO for the same ? is there any way , without visiting client desk and run below commands in .bat file

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
rd /s /q %windir%\softwaredistribution
net start bits
net start wuauserv
wuauclt.exe /detectnow

basically how do we run .bat file through GPO in invisible mode ?

please help.

Hi Team,

I removed few machines from Domain a week back but they are still showing up now in WSUS console. They should go off automatically right? How to perform the clean up or is there anyway to automate it?

I am receiving the bellow error on my WSUS 2016 Enterprise server patch version 1803.

I have tried to fix this, using the additional memory method, cleaning up the DB, changing the .net version etc..

Still does not work correctly, it seems to be fine, then bam, just freezes with the below error, which requires a server reboot to clear. I have attempted IISReset, and also restarting the WWW publishing services, to no avail.

I have also rebuilt the server twice, thinking that would help, first rebuild was from 2012R2 where this occurred, to 2016 1607 version with the original DB details,.. Same error eventually.. Then a fresh rebuild with a new server name.. same issue occurs.. I have googled this and it appears common yet no one has yet to fix it..

Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809) for x64-based Systems KB4467708 2018-11 - Stuck at "Downloading - 100%"

I have a fresh install of Windows Server 2019 and I am stuck at installing Windows Update KB4467708.
Windows Update is stuck at "Downloading - 100%".
I manually downloaded said update from Microsoft Update Catalog and it shows that it is successfully installed.
However, in Update history, it shows that the update failed with an error "0x80240034".
If I re-run the Update file, message shows that it is already installed
I troubleshoot as per several articles such as https://howtofixwindows.com/windows-10-1809-update-fails-to-install/
and several other technet articles.
I have installed Windows Server 2019 on a Physical Server and on a Virtual Machine but same issue with Windows Update KB4467708.
Any insights is much appreciated. Thank you.

Allow .Net Framework 3.5 installation on Windows 10 through WSUS

$

Hi all,

We have a single domain, with a WSUS 3.0 Server running on W2008R2.

We have domain-joined machines running Windows 10 Pro.

Those machines get their updates normally through that WSUS server, and the rest of them (W7, W8.1) too.

We have the products "Windows 10" and "Windows 10 Feature on Demand" checked on WSUS.

We have approved ".Net 3.5 Feature on Demand for X64" and ".Net 3.5 Feature on Demand for X86" on WSUS.

Our issue is: when a user goes to Programs and Features on Windows 10, and tries to activate .Net Framework 3.5, he receives error 0x800F081F.

A network capture shows the machine is trying to contact our WSUS server for this, not Windows Update.

My questions are:

  • Is there any way to allow users to install .Net Framework 3.5 on Windows 10 from WSUS?
  • Does it work on W2008R2-based WSUS? Or only on W2012R2?
  • Are those ".Net 3.5 Feature on Demand for XXX" updates the correct ones we have to approve to make it work?
  • Is going to Control Panel - Programs and Features and checking .Net Framework 3.5 the correct way to install it on Windows 10 through WSUS?
  • If .Net Framework 3.5 can't be deployed to Windows 10 through WSUS, how can we make it contact Windows Update for it? We have the GPO policy setting "contact Windows Update directly" set but it looks like Windows 10 ignores it (8.1 works though).

Thanks in advance,

José

Host - Server2012R2 Datacenter

Client - Server2012R Standard

my Hyper -V systems are not downloading WSUS updates. I "see' them but immediately get error 80244019.

I need to get current. I am recovering from ransomware attack and need to rebuild the SharePoint & SQL Hyper-v systems. They are up but I need to apply WSUS updates to get them current.

I reset catroot2 but still fail on download.

Physical servers taker the downloads as well as Win10 clients.

Error : Connection Error click reset server node to try to connect to the server again

$

I have just installed a brand new Windows Server 2012 R2 instance with 8 processor cores and 16gb ram and 2tb disk.

I installed the WSUS server role and chose quite a few classifications (we have a large environment with servers and desktops ranging from xp/2003 all the way up to 10 and we use about 60% of the product classifications because we have a *lot* of microsoft products.

When I click on the all udpates list and set it to show me "unapproved" "any" the WSUS client crashes and I get "Error : connection error. An error occured trying to connect to the WSUS server..." Click reset server node to try to connect to the server again.

Things I have tried to fix this :

1)ALL WINDOWS UPDATES ARE INSTALLED FROM THE INTERNET, NOTHING OUT OF DATE.

2)Reboot.  This will allow me to load the console but looking at any lists of updates like the "all udpates" list crashes it again

3)This : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3159706.  That helped until I tried to approve some packages, after approving about 2000 it died again.

4)Restarting the WID service, the WSUS service and the IIS services (and all related services).  THIS DOES NOTHING!

So no matter what I do, this unstable thing will just disconnect.

How do I fix this?

From what I read 3159706 was supposed to fix it, but it only fixed it for about 30 seconds, and now its back to dead again...

We're running ConfigMgr 1709 on Server 2012 R2, with separate WSUS server, also on Server 2012 R2

Additionally, KB2919355 and KB3159706 are both installed on our SCCM and WSUS servers, with post install steps completed.

Oddly, many other WSUS updates are not affected, such as: Windows 7, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, and Adobe Flash for Windows 10

I wanted to try out a test 2019 WSUS server. Everything seemed to go smoothly, however when I go look at All Computers, I get a system node crash.

I looked at the possibility of it being the same as the bad BIOS name, but I do not seem to see any errors.

The error is as follows:

The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,

Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.

1809 Machines Will Not Check With WSUS after Update

Greetings,

Doing some testing on our test environment with the 1809 update. After the update the systems will not check the WSUS server for updates but instead will try to reach the internet. This system is not internet connected so it fails. Here is the log from the last run. Can anyone tell me where to start looking?

I have tried to stop the services and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder but that didn't help either.

Any ideas?

Hi All,
I need to setup WSUS to patch servers in a secure test environment. The Network has no access to the internet.
Has anyone done something similar they can advise on. ? Even the initial configuration of wsus requires internet and won't go by it.
Appreciate any help/feedback.
Thanks

Joe.

Thanks - Joe.
