I deploy Windows Updates using WSUS 6.3.9600.18694 from a Windows 2012R2 server. Each month on random machines the Cumulative Updates installs then uninstalls all changes.
On another issue, some of my servers no longer appear in my WSUS database and some are not reporting in. Any assistance is welcome.
Thanks!

Hello Friends
One of our client having WSUS in environment and using for Client system patching. As we all know that if any patch required reboot then until we reboot that system next patch will not install and compliance will stuck on that level.
We need to send a Restart required POP-Up on system whenever patch install and it requires restart that system.
What we can do for that in our environment.
Dear all,

We currently have a "disconnected" WSUS server, which hasn't been used for a couple of years. Many machines and servers are connected to this server, server also has McAfee EPO installed on it, which is frequently updated and used on a daily basis.
So, for getting the WSUS in action again, I setup an additional server, which would be my export (Upstream) WSUS server, as the disconnected server has to stay disconnected for security reasons.
I have setup the upstream server and downloaded updates on it. Now, when I go to theWindows Server Update Services Configuration Wizard on the existing "DISCONNECTED" WSUS, on the Choose Upstream Serverpart I add my upstream servers name and tick the This is a replicaradio box, I am getting stuck at the Connect to Upstream Server part, because these two servers are not connected at all. The Upstream server is online and connected to the Internet, the Downstream server is in an isolated network.
My plan was to get the updates in a flash drive and manually add them to the Downstream server.
Can someone please help me?
Hi Experts,
We are looking for help in troubleshooting the WSUS setup, for past few weeks, its observed that WSUS patches are getting installed on the respective WSUS clients with the help of WSUS server only, however the WSUS Server console is showing the counts of installed and pending which are not increasing nor decreasing.
We have performed troubleshooting in which we checked the telnet to & fro on port # 8530 (between WSUS Server and WSUS Client) , telnet was found to be working.
All of the the WSUS clients are installed with latest patches of current month
We have re-booted WSUS server to see if it affects, but no luck.
Environment Details : WSUS Server Ver 6.3.9600.18694 | Windows Sever 2012 R2 | VMWare based virtual environment for both WSUS Server as well WSUS Clients
Thanks & Regards

The world is fading...how to control.
Our organization rolled Windows 10 Build 1803 (x64) out a few days ago via WSUS. Workstations were originally running 1607 1709. All went well!
Now, for our first patch Tuesday since the deployment, we find that none of our Windows 10 clients are properly detecting as "needing" the Cumulative update released today for Windows 10 Build 1803 (KB4103721). Yet, if we instruct each client to check with the Microsoft Update servers directly, they do detect, download, and install the update.
I have tried stopping the Windows Update service on one of the clients, deleting the "SoftwareDistribution" folder, and re-detecting. But this did not resolve the issue.
Any other suggestions? Anyone else experiencing this?
Bri

I'm running a Windows 2008 Enterprise edition with WSUS Sp2 for a few months already. All was working well until the beginning of this week. I had approved quite a large amount of updates to push out Sunday. I reviewed the WSUS console for a status report and noticed that no updates were pushed out to the clients.
I saw in the event viewer that the WSUS Content folder permissions were incorrect. I reviewed the resolution page in steps to correcting this but it seems it didn't resolve the issue as I see in event viewer the same error appears.
I am able to sync up to check for updates perfectly fine, and can approve, decline with no problems. Is there anywhere else I should try looking to resolve this?
So I have been pulling my hair out with an issue that's been happening a lot lately for unknown reasons (since ~December 2017)
For years we have been bringing WSUS updates into high security environments with isolated WSUS servers by exporting WSUS Metadata + the content of the WSUSContent folder from an internet facing server, copying that to DVD's, then bringing in and copying
the metadata/files to the isolated WSUS server, and importing the metadata. It's been working well, but recently we've been seeing a lot of cases where WSUS will get "stuck" thinking the new updates are missing files after the import.-- Like
progress gets stalled and no more progress happens on the Updates Needing Files count dropping.
We have checked all of the update files exist (I wrote a Powershell script to query the InstallableItems collection for every update and then check those files exist because spot checking a few by hand always showed the file to be present). In the course
of troubleshooting I also checked the checksums of the files too, and they all match as well too. WSUS is sort of stuck in a state thinking it needs files it already has. As a last resort, we issue aWSUSUtil.exe RESET and the problem goes away-- WSUS realizes all the files are present and updates needing files drops to 0.
The problem is, this last resort has become commonplace now, the issue frequently (but not always) occurring after import, since about December 2017 and nothing but a reset seems to fix it. Any ideas on why it might be getting "Stuck"
so much lately and or how else to deal with this situation when it does? Is there anyway to trigger the WSUSService to do a re-check of an individual update's files? (We have tried declining then re-approving the update, cancelling the download,
but that never helps-- only the wholesale RESET seems to help--but it takes a while to re-verify the entire WSUSContent directory contents).
We have a 2016 WSUS server functioning well for all clients except some of our 2016 servers. We have GPO setup up to auto download and notify for install.
I have verified Group Policy is applying to these servers and validated the correct registry entries are present. If i run SCONFIG, I see option 5 set as Download only.
The issue is when I go into the windows update settings on the affected server(s). It shows the server has checked in but no updates are available. It also says updates will be downloaded and installed automatically. If I click Check for updates, it checks and automatically installs the updates then tells me it will reboot outside of active hours.
Some other 2016 servers in the same OU with the exact same policies work like they should. They download the updates automatically but tell me I need to install them.
I have done everything possible to try and resolve this issue from stopping the Windows update service, deleted all windows update registry entries, deleted the software distribution folder and rebooted
I have compared registry entries on good\bad servers and they are identical
I have removed and re-added them to the domain with no luck
There are no local group policies applied only domain level policies
This seems like a bug but I can't confirm it. Any thoughts?
If this is not a bug, is there a fix?

so i'm supposed to run MBSA but this link says it is deprecated. so i used the offline PowerShell script it suggested.
i ran the script on my DC server and produced several security updates that are not present or installed in the DC server. among them is KB2928120.
so i searched for KB2928120 in my DC server (View Installed Updates) and it isn't installed.
in the website Microsoft Update Catalog it shows KB2928120 as for x64.
in the WSUS report (Update Detailed Status), it shows KB2928120 as for Itanium.
the question now is, why is it the WSUS report only shows KB2928120 as for Itanium only?According to the document of server-server protocol, Soap requests must be sent to USS web service(Server Sync, DSS Authorization, Reporting) URI. Absolutely When you are on DSS, you know USS web service URI but in document, I can't find any URI for Microsoft WSUS web services. I searched and found WSDL of WSUS web services like ServerSyncWebService and how to negotiate with it on behalf of DSS.
What I'm looking for is: URI of Microsoft WSUS web services.
Documents are in :https://winprotocoldoc.blob.core.windows.net/productionwindowsarchives/MS-WSUSSS/[MS-WSUSSS].pdf
Thanks in advance for reply
What I want to know is, where can I go to find a list of the latest servicing stack update for each version of Windows ?
I've tried and you can't search the Windows Update Catalogue, WSUS or System Center, as the update's Details page just contains generic rubbish like this (below). The only place I can find actual details on a servicing stack update is on the Microsoft Knowledge Base listing, but this requires that I be aware of the servicing stack update's release and its KB number. I want to know, at any given point in time, all the latest servicing stack updates by Windows version. This will enable me to make sure they're pushed out on our servers before I push out other updates using SCCM / WSUS, so the update process is as reliable as possible.
Edit: For clarification, the 'Servicing Stack' in Windows is the Windows Update client. Like all other Windows components, it gets patched from time-to-time. Which is to say Windows Update gets updated by itself. I'm seeking a list of the latest versions of these updates.

Hi all
Need help.
I installed a WSUS server and am having trouble with the following:-
1. My machine is not showing up in the WSUS console.
2. I have set the WSUS server to download updates locally. I can see it has sync'd and is showing that updates need to be approved etc BUT when i try to view updates so I can approve nothing is displayed?
3. And I keep getting this annoying Error Connection Error (see screen shot). What the hell's going on? I hit 'Reset Server Node' and then it fixes it but then comes back when i'm trying to navigate in/around the WSUS console.
I've created a GP and under Computer Configuration have set the intranet update server to my server e.g http://myserver:8530 and linked it to an OU which my computer account is now sitting in.
Performed a GPUPDATE /FORCE on my machine, and have checked registry entry which confirms that my machine is pointing to my WSUS server. So that all seems fine. Did this today. Having doing some reading, it seems like for machines to show up can take some time. I've also performed wuauclt /register, wuauclt /detectnow on the server.
I set WSUS yonks ago and am pretty certain everything is set correctly, but please feel free to correct me incase i've missed anything.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
Hi,
Can I configure WSUS server to download only 2018 updates? Thanks in Advance
How can i get my RSAT tools back, installing them manualy gives error

For months we have had two servers with the mentioned OS installations that fail when applying the Cumulative updates for that month.
For one server the updates install in the OS but upon restarting the server an error occurs and all the changes are undone and all the updates are available again.
For the other, the updates download but upon installing the progress bar gets to about 20% and then hangs for a long time, then fails with a generic "please try again later"
Notes:
Both servers have access to internet
We have attempted to install updates from deployment software (GFI Languard) as well as while on the server remotely (RDP)
We have attempted to rename/delete the SoftwareDistribution Folder and re-perform updates - same results.
We have attempted to download the updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install them manually - same results.
We have many other servers with these OS's that have had no issues with applying the cumulative updates.
Would greatly appreciate any suggestions as we are out of ideas.
