IE11 Update Error 9C48

I have recently installed IE11 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine using Windows update. Since installing this, Windows update is still prompting me to install this. If I attempt to go ahead with the installation, I am getting error 9C48. The version installed is 11.0.9600.16428.

I've seen various threads online with similar problems, but nothing has fixed this yet.

I have not been able to uninstall it as it is not showing on the installed programs list, nor is it showing as an installed update.

If I try and install it using the offline installer, an error tells me it can't proceed because of a newer version installed.

I also found a copy here: support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/17621/internet-explorer-downloads This appears to install fine, but when checking with Windows update, it was still prompting me to update and the same error occurred.

I've included a copy of the IE11_main log from C:\Windows below:

WSUS does not show any computers

Hello All,

Very odd - WSUS on Server 2016 does not show any computers.  I usually use the "use the update services console" instead of "use group policy" but neither will work .  If I search for a specific system nothing shows up.  I have set this up many times on other networks with no problems.  Any suggestions?

GPO not apply.

Hi,

In the beginning we have all servers (AD and member) were windows 2008 r2. We have created WSUS group policy on Windows 2008r2 DC. We also have Windows 2008 r2 as WSUS server. After some time, we had added Windows 2012 in our server environment as additional DC and member servers. WSUS GPO applied to all Windows 2008 r2 and Windows 2012 server and windows update from WSUS server. Now we have added Windows 2016 servers as additional DC and member server. WSUS GPO are not applying on Windows 2016 servers. how to troubleshoot this. I want all Windows 2016 servers to update via WSUS server, Do I need to create different GPO for Windows 2016 servers? If yes, then How?

I need immediate help as I need to finish this project within two days.

Thanks.

Timeout for Cleanup Wizard step "Unneeded update files"

I set up a fresh new Win Server 2019 with WSUS. I redirected the content to a networkshare. Everything works fine beside the cleanup of the "unneeded update files". I can see with process monitor that durinig this step the w3wp-process crawls all existing and non existing files in the content store. After three minutes, the WSUS-console says goodbye to me. The process still goes on.

I already raised the SQL-Timeout and did some recommended IIS optimizations. I also used the WSUS-Indexing script. There is still one timeout missing and I can not find it. Any ideas where to look.

Windows Server 2019 automatic detection update and reminder issues

$
0

I built a Windows Server 2019 virtual machine and pointed it to a WSUS server as a client connection. I need to implement the following features: When WSUS approves the update, all clients will download the update and issue a system reminder and install it with the user's consent.

However, the client that installs Windows server 2019 will display a code error code of 0x80240007 during the automatic detection of the specified frequency. Very strange, but I just click "Retry" and everything goes on. So, it just doesn't want to give a reminder.

At this point in time when the update is automatically detected, the WindowsUpdate.log record is as follows:

The GPO I set seems to be able to meet my requirements, because it can be implemented on other system clients (Windows Server 2016 / Windows 10).
This is my GPO(I was unable to send the image at this time, so I uploaded it to OneDrive). [https://1drv.ms/u/s!AlWpKGxu8KyynS4E1E_hlIUxeEUD?e=cHKlYd]

Is this a bug? Any suggestions, thank you all!

Machine not reporting - WSUS on Win2k12R2 Std

Hello fellas !

I have done some research before posting and I am looking for other POV and insights on some stuff that I might miss.

  • Server : Windows Server 2012 R2 Std
  • Issue : Some machines aren't reporting.
  • Method : Using GPO.

I have tried to remove the machine from the WSUS, forcing gpupdate on the computers and run a command that detects the WSUS. Results, they are still not reporting. I have 3 guess at this stage :

  1. Firewall, UAC or Anti-Virus is preventing the process.
  2. Machine does not apply correctly the GPO.
  3. Connection between the server and the machine is broken.

GPUpdate does work. I did a GPResult and it does show that the WSUS GPO is enabled and applied. Other machines with the same configurations are doing fine. Test-Connection from the server to the machine is ok. I do see their IP Addresses on the WSUS Panel.

Thanks,

WSUS - Report only - approve update for uninstall

$

Hello,

I currently have a WSUS server that is set to autodownload and approve updates.

I am considering using WSUS for reports only and letting my win10 machines go to the internet for updates.

I have a few questions hopefully I can get answered.

1) If I use WSUS for reporting only, Can I Mark updates for removal and will the machines uninstall once they report into WSUS?

2) If so, can I mark specific device's (one or two machines) as "approved for removal" or is it a one and done..

Approve update for removal and it removed it from all systems?

Please advise.

Thanks

Wsus on server 2019

Hi, I'm have installed WSUS on server 2019 and everything seems to be running fine, except I'm getting a warning "Feature Unavailable" The Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 Redistributable is required for this feature.

I have installed ReportBuilder, ReportViewer and SQLSysCLrTypes as suggesting in a solution to get WSUS Working on server 2016, but on server 2019 the message keeps popping up.

Has anybody got it working on server 2019?

All of sudden, I have some servers that cannot communicate with WSUS that are on a different subnet.  This hasn't been an issue in the past and seems to have started 12 days ago or so.

Here is an excerpt of WindowsUpdate.log from one of the servers:

Windows server 2016 WSUS not downloading updates

Good day,

Just set up WSUS for the first time on a windows 2016 server, I am new to this,

the installation went through with no problems, did selection for which updates I wanted, created the group policies,

made sure that the exceptions are set in the servers firewall, it loaded the computers from my network, but it downloaded 18.36 mb of 6,534 Mb of downloads and stopped... for the past two days. and

From time to time i the wsus app crashes and asks to be reset

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

I went as far as setting the private memory limit to 0 in the IIS manager for the wsus pool, it doesnt crash as often but still crashes though the server has 32gigs of ram.

Are there any suggestions on what I may be doing wrong and how i can go about resolving this issue. i am mostly concerned about not being able to download the updates though they have already been set in the wizard.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Is there any necessity there to install older updates if it had already superseded ?

Client says their compliance tools says following

Apply Security Only update KB4343888 or Cumulative Update KB4343898 as well as refer to the KB article for additional information.
* Apply Security Only update KB4471322 or Cumulative Update KB4471320.
* Apply Security Only update KB4480964 or Cumulative Update KB4480963.

But I had already installed latest Patch (2019-04 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows Server 2012 R2 for x64-based Systems (KB4493446)) and MS Catalog says KB4493446 replace all above.

Not sure why would some tool says the machine needs some old updates though the latest patches are installed.

Is there any necessity there to install older updates if it had already superseded ?

Can I ask them to ignore?

.NET updates show as cumulative, but they don't supersede

KB4489192 released April 2nd is Cumulative (the one for 1809 x64). It does not supersede any previous .NET update. How is that possible since it is Cumulative? I would expect it to supersede KB4486553, release on March 1st.

hello , I want to ask some question about the WSUS, We know in wsus, there lots of updateclassifications

e.g. security update, critical update, update,

if I want to deploy monthly cumulative updates, what type should I choose in wsus? the security updates or Updates?

as below, i found 2 different cumulative update from windows update catalog. why have 2 ?????

and

If I just install a brand new windows, and already installed 2019 April cumulative update, is that means I dont need to install 2019 March cumulative update ?

thx
