Use of BITS within a LAN/same subnet

Hello,

I setup a GPO setting to enable BITS and reduce bandwidth during working hours, as follows:

I ticked the "Ignore bandwidth limits if the source and destination are on the same subnet" option because I want the clients (workstations and windows server itself) to download updates at full speed from WSUS.

I would expect a low bandwidth usage when downloading updates from Microsoft Update CDN. Unfortunately, it does not work because when I approve an update for install in WSUS console within working day/hours it is downloaded at full speed from Internet, which is no good.

What I am wrong?

WSUS Server Cleanup Wizard

I have recently inherited my agency's WSUS server, and I am not sure if or when the Server Cleanup Wizard has ever been run. The Updates folder is taking up huge amounts of disk space, and is growing. I tried to run the Cleanup Wizard with all options selected, and after running for a while, I get the following error:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server Database.

   

Verify that SQL server is running on the WSUS Server. If the problem persists, try restarting SQL.

   

 

System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException -- Timeout expired.  The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Wsus 10.0.14393.0 on Windows server 2016 missing products

Hi,

I have WSUS installed on Windows Server 2016. When i click on Products and Classifications, and then under the Products tab i don't have windows 7 or windows 10 listed nor ant other newer applications. How do you get these added?

The WSUS is running on Server 2012r2 with Essential Role enabled.

4 Windows 10 PCs on the network with 10 other Windows 7 PCs

The windows 7 PCs have no WSUS update problem.

One Windows 10 Pro 1803 has no WSUS problem. It was offered the Jun Windows 10 1803 Flash update and it was updated with no problem.The PC has been in use for a year.

One Windows 10 Pro 1803 was put in production four weeks ago and had a WSUS Windows 10 May update two weeks ago 6/1/19 without problem. 
Now non of the Windows 10 June 1803 update have been offered to this PCs. WSUS does offer the Office 2013 June Word security update to this PC.

One Windows 10 Pro Workstation 1803 was put in production two weeks ago and had WSUS Windows 10 May update two weeks ago 6/1/19 without problem. 
Now non of the Windows 10 June 1803 update have been offered to this PCs. WSUS does offer the Office 2013 June Word security update to this PC.

One Windows 10 Pro 1809 was put in production last week and had WSUS Office 2013 update installed ok last week.  
Now non of the Windows 10 June 1809 update have been offered to this PCs. WSUS does offer the Office 2013 June Word security update to this PC.

I had uninstalled the Symantec Endpoint Anti virus on one of the problem win10 PCs and see if that was the problem and it was not.

I did try to put a check mark on the WSUS Products choice page for Window 10 Version 1809 and that seems to have no effect on the 1809 PC.

Have anyone seen this kind of problem before?

WSUS 3.0 SP2 will not run after installing update 2720211

The update was installed and server rebooted.  Now the WSUS console on Server 2008 SP2 will not run.  "Error: Connection Error.  An error occurred trying to connect to WSUS server."

The update service and IIS are both running.

When checking for updates from clients, they  show a message saying their update software needs to be upgraded, but they fail updating.

I was going to uninstall the update, but there is no option to uninstall the update from the WSUS server.

What are options to fix this?

Not able to re-install WSUS in 2008r2

My WSUS stop working when I installed kb3159706 and ran the post install so I can deploy Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Has anyone ran into this same problem? Below is my log. 

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API. 

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists, 

Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.

Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 upgrade

Hi,

I have a windows 7 pro laptop which I have not upgrade to Windows 10 Pro when it was the free upgrade . Now I have seen a video from YouTube, as we still be able to upgrade to windows 10 Pro if we have a windows 7 pro license, by downloading  "Create Windows 10 installation media" from the below link; and it will automatically activate assign with Windows 10 digital license.

I just need to check this is the right way or I have to buy new Windows 10 Pro license?

Windows Server 2016 KB4503267 stuck at 0% downloading.

I have tried to restart the server and get the same results.  

I have let it stay on 0% downloading over weekend and had no change on monday.

WSUS Error 8024401F on Server 2008R2

Hello,

Since some days I get on all Windows Server 2008R2 machines the error code 8024401F. My WSUS Server is already a W2K16 Server and all other servers as 2012 and 2016 are served fine. Only on all W2k8 machines I am facing this problems. Does anyone have an idea what I can do: No GPO changes where done.

Cumulative updates explanation..

  Hello,

     A question regarding cumulative updates. 

      Does a CU have all the previous \ new updates for the month of updates that MS puts out for a product? Maybe not previous?

      Meaning, if I have go to get updates from the internet \ Wsus, and there are 15 updates for Server 2016 security \ critical etc - whatever.. Will this CU cover all these updates?

        It seems that the CU's take forever to install \ reboot etc..

        If it is a combination of certain updates, which classification do they cover?

WSUS - Synchronization Failures after migrating WID to SQL Instance

Hello,

Hope all is well! I have been working to resolve an issue for the better part of 2 weeks now, and do not seem to have an end in sight. I have an issue regarding synchronization between my USS and DSS after migrating the WSUS WID instance to a SQL instance. I can still pull down the Microsoft Updates to the USS; however, when I try to sync from my DSS to my USS I will continually get the same error below:

"One or more errors were found when trying to import updates into the data store, and the synchronization has failed. The next synchronization will try to import the updates that were imported in this attempt."

I have edited the registry to support the remote SQL instance:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Update Services\Setup\SqlServerName - Giving the SQL Instance Name

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Update Services\Setup\SqlInstanceIsRemote - Set value to '1'

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Update Services\Setup\wyukonInstalled - Set value to '0'

HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Update Services\Setup\Installed Role Services - Changed 'UpdateServices-WidDatabase' to 'UpdateServices-Database'. 

Looking at the Logs 'C:\Program Files\Update Services\LogFiles\SoftwareDistribution' does yield a pretty good amount of info.

Win server 2016 update issues

Since April 2019, Downloading and installing windows updates on servers with win server 2016 are too slow and for some servers is stuck checking or downloading updates,even the manual update hangs copying the files to the update cache...

Is there any way to find out the Microsoft server that windows trying to download updates from? or may be any way to run windows update in verbose mode via command line to find out why the windows update does not have any progress?

I tried GET-Windows update command but had other issue with this....

Win10 machines not talking to WSUS server

Hi,

I need some help and advice on fixing the WSUS connection issue.  Windows 10 (1809) machines from our environment getting the error "Error encountered" with error code (0x80240007) when trying to connect to our WSUS server (WSUS 4 running on Windows server 2012 R2).  When client click on the Retry button, it will work again.  But next time when machine trying to connect to WSUS again, the same error occurs.

We need to change path while configuring exchange account in outlook. There is no option to change path to keep your mail in the other drive.

sync download issue

Hi,

a week ago I installed new WSUS on server 2019.

For testing the GPO pointing to the server applies to test OU with couple of Servers 2012,16,19 and W10 machine.

Everything was fine with downloading and update distribution. Yesterday after June patches approval last Friday I found  that target machines not getting patches (showing no new updates available).

I found that after successful sync the downloaded files size and number appear and equal to needed but it never resets to no files needed (as a normal behavior). So patches are downloaded but not applied.

Last year I had similar problem with one of WSUS. I had the option to bypass proxy and go straight to MS. Now we don't have this option and connection to internet requires proxy. I talk to firewall/proxy guys. They confirm that there are no proxy caching.

I was sure that the problem was with cache... see please screen shots. What I should check for correct troubleshooting?

Server Management via WSUS

Hello,

I have got around 40 servers which have been not patched from quite some time now, which were been patched manually on and off.  Now we have deployed WSUS in our environment.  Some servers require 80 updates, some require 22, some 16 some 20 and so on.  I am thinking to patch them manually before I apply the WSUS GPO and manage them via WSUS?  How do you tackle such scenarios?  What will be the best approach here?

Machines wont install updates Win10PRO

I have 2 different issues with win10 machines

2 of my laptops are reporting that they cant install the updates they downloaded through the wsus

when im checking the updates on the laptop it tells me pending install...

and the laptop wont install the updates..

the laptop is connected to my organization over wifi connection, and they will update only if i'll set them to use meterd connection only (automatically download updates, even over metered data connections)

same issue with my win10 PC's which connected with RJ45 cables to the wall
