Hi, I'm have installed WSUS on server 2019 and everything seems to be running fine, except I'm getting a warning "Feature Unavailable" The Microsoft Report Viewer 2012 Redistributable is required for this feature.

I have installed ReportBuilder, ReportViewer and SQLSysCLrTypes as suggesting in a solution to get WSUS Working on server 2016, but on server 2019 the message keeps popping up.

Has anybody got it working on server 2019?

WSUS: Client Computers Not Yet Reported Status

Hello Friends,

I have WSUS server (Windows server 2016). We have multiple sites. Our Client computers reporting to single wsus server

Some of the client windows 7 and windows 10 machines are showing not yet reported status.

I have tried lots of troubleshooting like renaming software distribution folder, susid deletion, various time ran wuauclt /detectnow and wuauclt /reportnow , Telenet wsus server 8530, etc, but still not resolved my issue.

However the Update is detecting/Installing from Microsoft Update website perfectly. The issue is only when I update through WSUS server.

The Reporting event log (C:\Windows\software distribution) says-

SelfUpdate    Failure    Software Synchronization    Windows Update Client failed to detect with error 0x80072efe.

Please someone help me to resolve this issue.

Thanks

Wrong Windows version in WSUS console

We've got a Windows Server 2016 with WSUS installed.

Most Client are Windows 10 1803.

I deployed the last Update KB4512501 to the Client.

WinVer on the Client reports Build 17134.984.

The WSUS console still reports 17134.915.

How can we fix this?

Clients published wrong OS Version

Hi

I playing with WSUS on an old SBS 2011 server.

I have already reinstalled in the hope it solves the problem.

My (three) clients will be configured via GPO. I see the computers in WSUS. But all three publishing Vista as installed os.

Okay, this is the third generation of computers (Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 10). The computer names were adopted in every generation.

Where WSUS gets the names? Does the client itself tell the name to server or does the server itself resolve the computers name and somewhere in AD is stored the old name??

But the os name is correct in "Active Directory Users and Computers".

Thanks

Decline Updates for only Certain Groups

We have a small group of users that need some updates not applied.  When I choose to decline and update it states it will remove it from all groups.  How can we selectively remove approvals for updates for only a certain group in WSUS?

Thank You!

2012 WSUS sync errors only on definition updates

WSUS Update continually fails.

I have a Gateway 9220-T server with Server 2012 Standard on it which has been removed from service and replaced with a new Server 2019 machine as the domain controller. I’m setting up the Gateway to use as a WSUS server. So I’ve wiped it and reloaded Server 2012 standard and installed WSUS on it. Currently I’m still working on it in the LAB and it’s not in use as of yet.

Installed and configured for "first run" with no issues. I did not elect to have it automatically do that first run automatically, because it would take a really long time, more than 8 hours. So in Options – Products & Classifications – Classifications I elect to get only critical updates first. That went off without a hitch. Then I installed those critical updates needed by the server.

Next, I checked Definition Updates and then ran the sync again. Problem is, the sync makes it all the way to 99% (maybe 100% but not sure) and then fails. Multiple sync attempts result the same. So, I unchecked definition updates and selected updates (not upgrades) and that ran without a hitch. Installed all those updates, selected definition updates again and upon syncing it gets to 99-100% and fails again.

Looking at the sync reports for the failed syncs they all say the same thing. "A dependency of the update was not found on the server and was not provided by the upstream server"  I’m syncing with Microsoft, not with an upstream server of mine.

I’ve googled this and everything I find on this problem is for SCCM or DataCenter. So can someone direct me to a starting point for Server 2012 WSUS please? I’m clueless on this. A screenshot of all the sync errors is attached. It "appears" this has something to do with missing updates? I’m just guessing.

How to remove an update that has been approved but not yet installed

What is the best way to remove an update that has been approved in WSUS, but not yet installed on the client computers?

Yesterday I approved KB3114409, which causes problems for Outlook 2010 and was pulled by Microsoft. I missed the news.

This morning, it was waiting to be installed on 74 computers. They may have already downloaded it from the WSUS server.

Should I decline the update, or mark it for removal? Which one will prevent it from getting installed?

Thanks

We have an issue where we had to restore complete server from VMDK backup becase of a windows update killed a legacy applicaiton. After they restored it, it got the update again. Is the best method just to move the comptuer to an OU without a WSUS policy? I tried that  and it still got the updates. What other methods outside the box have you used?

Thank you

Windows 10 1903 reporting too many events to WSUS

Hello,

we're using WSUS 6.3.9600.18838 installed on a Windows Server 2012 R2. As we had some performance problems with it we simply removed the WSUS role and reinstalled it. We also renamed the WID-directory of the Windows Internal Database to make sure our WSUS will begin from the scratch.

And now, just about 2 days later the performance trouble starts again. After some more research in the SUSDB we noticed that the 1903 clients (roundabout 40 systems with OSBuildNumber 18362 out of 3000+ different Windows systems at our WSUS) produced endless entries in the tbEventInstance table.

One system for example produced 561.798 entries with EventID 182 (= "Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error %1: %2.") for the update 52DD0FB8-2165-4E8F-B7CD-7B8D46157BE9. Unfortunately the tbUpdate has no name for this update, there's only a "Null" entry.

561.798 entries from one system within about 2 days !!! I really don't know what's wrong here.

We really appreciate every hint.

Greetings

KB4517298 breaks Backup Exec 20.4

I have had so many issues this month with the August 13 updates.  Literally all of the OS's, servers and workstations broke in some way.  It's pretty crazy, most all issues are unique and removing does seem to fix some software but at the same time breaks many Windows functions like the taskbar and action center etc..

On one particular Windows Server 2012 R2, I am forced to remove KB4517298 and or KB4512488 or the Backup Exec user interface will not open.  The back end product runs fine and I can even remotely access it from another computer.  It's just for whatever reason the actual application simply won't run if either of those KB's are installed.

I hesitate to go to Veritas for support on this since I have half a dozen programs that simply won't function if either of these updates are installed.  It's not just Backup Exec, it's products from Blackbaud and other large organizations that were also broke by these updates.

I realize that on the release page, it does say the issue was solved by KB4517298:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-8.1-and-windows-server-2012-r2

Unfortunately the issue is not resolved.

The event viewer shows 3 events related to opening the Backup Exec UI:

Feature On Demand Empty - Add XPS Viewver Win.1803

Hi everyone

Since i've deploy 1803 on computers, i've seen On Demand Features are empty I can't add any thing but i've to deploy XPS viewver.

After some reseach, i've found a registry key to break the link from computer to WSUS and it works, but I don't want to do this manipulation on each workstation neither by GPO.

Is it possible to have a WSUS and deploy OnDemand features ?

Edit : I'm on a 2012 R2 server for my WSUS

Thank you !

WSUS on Server 2012 client not browse iuident.cab

I have installed WSUS on Server 2012 R2 that is activate the feature.

The problem is that the clients and also the server itself cannot connect to \\wsusserver.domain:8530/iuident.cab
In IIS on the server i right click the WSUS administration and choose manage - browse then nothing appears on that page.

On the server in the browser give in: \\wsusserver:8530 then a IISpage appears with the version on it but when putting after this: /selfupdate or /iuident.cab 404 page not found appears..

The cabinet files are present in c:\program files\updateservices\.....
User rights for the folders are set to anonymous and everyone have rights.
Strange thing is when i go in explorer to the folder .../sellfupdate/iuident.cab and look at the user rights then anonymous and everyone have no rights on the cabinet.. When i want to change the user rights for that cabinet file i cannot change that and also not when i make administrator the owner. This is also the fact when i change the above folder userrights and want to deploy it to all folders beneath that folder, then a error appears that access is denied although i am local and domain admin on the Windows Server 2012 R machine...

I have changed nothing in the configuration in IIS done a standard installation with proxy configuration but local sites are not through proxy server...

How can i solve this so that the cabinet files can be reached and that the updates on de the clients can be done thru the WSUS server?
In WSUS console i can see several computers joined and several are in the not yet reported status.

“Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality fixes”

We use WSUS to push Windows updates to all workstations running windows 10. Now, all workstations shows this message: “Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality fixes”

The WSUS synchonization works fine.

The Last Status Report shows Installed is 100%.

However, the workstations don’t install the update and shows “Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality fixes”

If we install Windows updates manually, then the message disappears. How can we fix this problem instead of going to each workstation to install the updates manfully?

I seem to keep missing updates that are available for WSUS but only if you download them manually from the Microsoft update catalog and then import into WSUS.  Is there a way I can check once a month to see what has been added to the Microsoft Update Catalog so i can determine if I want to import anything that month?

I am currently installing the July 2019 Windows Updates and have come across Windows Update KB4506161 which fails to install and returns an error Code 66A. Our updates are pushed out to our servers by WSUS.

The offending update is KB450616 - Security update for the information disclosure vulnerability in Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1

All the servers where this update fails to install are Windows Server 2012 R2. Has anyone else experienced this issue and if so, what actions were taken to get the update to install?

Hello All,

Since Severity is a criteria used to fix vulnerabilities, I wish to know the actual Severity for MS12-020

This is specific to Win7-x64

As per SCCM console, it is 'None'

However, Win7-x64 is rated as 'Critical' as per KB article:

Please clarify. Thanks.
