GPO applying WSUS

Good Morning

I have a wsus mounted on my network and with a GPO for the servers. We want the servers to receive the updates but not to install them and not to restart the server automatically.

This is working, the servers received the updates  but the "Install Now" button is disabled . I know some setting in the GPO is removing this permission.  Can you help me?

All the servers are Windows Srv 2016.

Upgrade Window 7 to Windows 10 via WSUS

I've fully patched the WSUS server including update KB3095113.  The Upgrades classification is populating and all the windows 10 upgrades are listed.  The status of upgrade "Windows 7 and 8.1 upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586" is coming up computers installed/not applicable.  That is the correct upgrade for our environment, the update does not supersede any other updates.  Obviously I'm unable to push Windows 10 out via WSUS unless the status changes to needed.  Any suggestions?

WSUS (2012/2016) stopped to detect updates for Sharepoint 2016/2019

Dear Microsoft staff,

please confirm the following: the latest cumulative update for Sharepoint 2016/2019 in your WSUS is from November '19.

The December '19 and January '20 are not detected by WSUS, nor can they be manually imported.

This ought to be a bug to be taken seriously. Please confirm and correct this. This was tested on WSUS server 2016 as well as 2012 R2 - both kept current.

WSUS Patching - Windows 10 - Failed - 0x80070005

Hi,

I’m looking for some advice for Windows 10 patching please.

Last month (Dec), we aimed to get 99% of our estate fully patched, but ran into issues with specific updates installing. The error code we have is 0x80070005, which is access denied.

We logged a ticket with Microsoft, but so far haven't had a solution

We had hoped that the new batch of updates out for Jan may override the Dec patches that had issues, but this hasn’t been the case. We’re now getting the access denied error code on the newer patches.

Microsoft was able to fix one machine, but to do that fix for 100+ machines, it isn’t suitable. To give a description of the behaviour of the PCs when patching. They scan for the updates, download them and install them. The PC then reboots as required. When going into Windows Update, it states that it is up to date. If you do a scan, it will redownload the same patches again and do the same cycle. Looking at the history, they all have the 0x80070005 error. An example of some of the WSUS reports we have:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with

error 0x80070005: 2019-12 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64 (KB4533002)

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with

error 0x80070005: 2019-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4530684)

A workaround  that we have found is to download the latest Windows 10 Upgrade tool and reinstall Windows on top of that. It can be time consuming, but can easily be done.

But with that, I can’t be hopeful that this error won’t happen every month.

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.

Windows 10 varying build number and WsUs!

Howdy folks,

Might be a stupid question but we have an environment with a mix of windows 10, 1803, 1809 and 1903 machines. My question is do i need to seperate out ALL of the patches based on the build number? Or can i release the latest 1903 patches and the lower build number machines will have them be applied as well without any issues?

should we expect windows 7 patches in January?

should we expect windows 7 patches in January?

or last patches were published in December 2019?

KB4486105 .NET Update Auto Installing?

Hi everyone, having some problems with a .NET feature update KB4486105.  It seems that this update has installed automatically on 2 of my servers and has caused problems on at least 1 of them that I'm aware of.  We checked in WSUS and the update is not approved.  I checked Windows Update and it says for Windows Only will I receive updates and I also don't see it in the update history.  I find it referenced in the DISM logs and the CBS logs.  Is there a mechanism in .NET that performs automatic updates that I'm not aware of?  I'm trying to seek the source of this update but really am having trouble doing so.

Thank you in advance.

Problem with patches and synchronizations

Hello --

I have completed the installation of WSUS 6.3 on a Windows 2012R2 server. The system is a virtual server with 300 gigabytes of disk space, and sixteen, 16, gigabytes of memory. I followed the procedure that is outlined in theDeploy Windows Server Update Services document, and used the default settings.

I am at a point where I have done the initial synchronization, and it appears to have completed successfully. However, I am running into various problems.

When I check the Synchonizations list, or attempt to Approve the downloaded patches, the system hangs and eventually times out with the Error: Connection Error message. The text of the error message is the following:

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

I confirmed the IIS server is running. When I did the installation of the WSUS, the database that I used was the one that was already selected in the Installation Wizard. There is a SQL Server Windows NT - 64 bit (Windows Internal Database) running on the system.

The process is at or near 100% CPU utilization nearly at all times.

There are currently 14104 security updates, and 3071 critical updates waiting to be approved.

The troubleshooting that I have done so far is to go into the IIS Manager, and modify thePrivate Memory Limit (KB) setting to 0, in order to have no limit set, and after that reboot the server. So far, nothing has worked.

Does anyone have insights into how this can be corrected?

Thanks.

Server 2012 STD R2 fails to apply Jan 2020 rollup (KB4534297)

Anyone else have any issues with KB4534297 (the Jan 14 2020 rollup) causing Windows Server 2012 Standard R2 to blue screen? I can apply every system update up to it and not have any problems. If I install it via Windows Update, it errors out and reverts after a reboot. If I install it manually, it boots me into system repair from which I cannot recover. I'm forced to use an older snapshot of the virtual machine and try all over again.

Thoughts?

Changing Group Structure

Good Afternoon,

I have "inherited" the WSUS server on our Production network.

In regards to the existing group structure, I would like to delete them and start all over with new groups that better mirror our updated network structure.

As I understand, if I delete the existing groups, all computers will go into the Unassigned group, and I would basically have to re-create new groups and then re-assign the computers to each respective group.

Is this correct? If so, are there any pitfalls I should be concerned with?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I have WSUS on Windows server 2019. I am configuring the GPO to enable auto updates. I want the auto install is scheduled to happen at 2:00 AM on the second Thursday each month. Is below the right place to configure it? What could cause the issue that I couldn't select option 4? After I select option 4 and save the change. It will change to option 2 when I come back.

Need help!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

The SSU from last November was approved on my WSUS but I don't see it when I'm checking for new updates on my servers.

In the reportingevents.log from softwaredistribution foler, it is writed 2 updates detected but I only can see one of them.

I already renamed this folder and restart wuauserv service but it's not better.

Any idea?

Thanks.

T.
