SCCM/WSUS unable to synchronize

Logs clearly show it is seeing updates, however it fails with only one single line every time:

Sync failed: The operation has timed out. Source: Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.DatabaseAccess.ApiRemotingCompressionProxy.GetWebResponse

From everything I have read, this is related to the WSUS database (SUSDB). I have manually tried cleaning it using wizard (GUI, & Powershell). After hours it eventually times out. All recommendations have been to manually connect to SUSDB using one of the two methods (after verifying TCP/IP is enabled):

In SQL Mgmt Studio Express, PowerShell or sqlcmd, connect to either server \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query or \\.\pipe\MICROSOFT##WID\tsql\query, witrh the second server name the recommendation if the first doesn't wotk (first is 2008 version, second is 2012) with Windows auth.

I have my SUSDB on a separate server from SCCM which runs 2012 R2 OS. No matter what I do, I continue to get the same "Server is not found or not accessible" error.Obviously, I have to get my sync working so I can begin patching ASAP.

Any thoughts on why cannot successfully clean up WSUS to resolve this issue?

I have a batch of computers that have been added to the domain and need to change the computer name. Should I need to exit the ad domain and modify the name before adding the domain again? Do I have any information about it? What is Microsoft's official proposal to change the name of the computer in the domain?

Delivery Optimization on disconnected Networks

I have reviewed several online docs on delivery optimization, but could not find any information for use and configuration on disconnected networks.

My network has several remote sites, many have slow connections with low bandwidth. I have one WSUS server used to deploy updates/patches. All of the clients on my network do not have any connection to the internet. Each site connects back to Central site via VPN for access to all servers and network resources.

Question 1: Can I still take advantage of delivery optimization on my disconnected network?

Question 2: What benefits can I gain from using delivery optimization on my disconnected network?

Question 3: What are some suggested configurations and/or GPO settings for delivery optimization on disconnected networks?

Since Windows 10 2004, updates from WSUS are not installed automatically, GPO is ignored

Hi

Since our clients are on Windows 10 2004, updates from WSUS are not installed automatically anymore. There is no notification, no nothing. The updates are listed in the WU dialog and are waiting for it to be manually installed.

We have configured a GPO to automatically download and install (option 4) and inform the user about a needed reboot, allow 5 days for it.

This worked a treat up until we deployed W10 2004. I have updated to the latest admx on the DC and there are only new settings for Server 2016.

What's wrong?

Upgrade Window 7 to Windows 10 via WSUS

I've fully patched the WSUS server including update KB3095113.  The Upgrades classification is populating and all the windows 10 upgrades are listed.  The status of upgrade "Windows 7 and 8.1 upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, 10586" is coming up computers installed/not applicable.  That is the correct upgrade for our environment, the update does not supersede any other updates.  Obviously I'm unable to push Windows 10 out via WSUS unless the status changes to needed.  Any suggestions?

Windows update Error 0xc1900130

Hi,

We having an issue with one of our Windows 10 clients.

When try yo update this machine get this error:

Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909 - Error 0xc1900130

When go to the Windows updates see this message:

Your version of Windows has reached the end of support. We recommend that you update to the latest version of Windows 10 to receive the latest security features and enhancements.

I did check the version of the Windows 10 and is at 1803 and I can see that updates to the 1903 and 1909 has been failed.

Should we download and install the 1903 manually?

How to get the Windows 10 1909 update via WSUS??

$

I've seen it said in another forum:

"1909 can be enabled thru WSUS by looking for "Feature Update to Windows 10 version 1909.  It is NOT a security or critical patch, so if your WSUS is restricted to download only those, you will not see it.  After approval, the install is pretty quick thru Windows Update"

My question: To get this within WSUS, we must enable 'Feature Packs' in Updates and Classifications?? Or something else???????

If I add this item, what ELSE will be installed to all our computers and servers?? We don't want any unnecessary updates that could cause problems.

We presently have the Feature Updates and whatnot policies set to 'NOT Configured' to prevent the WSUS dual scan problem.

Thank you, Tom

.NET Framework 4.8 in WSUS?

Does anyone know if the latest .NET Framework (4.8) is available to push out via WSUS?  If not, is it supposed to be coming, or is this something that has to be manually pushed out?

WSUS not installing updates as expected

I have a few sites where Windows 10 policies are not effective.  Even when I enable immediate installation, often times users have to click "install now" to install the update.  This is true right now for the cumulative updates for .Net and win10 2004.  I approve the update but when I visit the workstation, it is waiting for someone to click "install now".   This is totally new to me

Question is, how can I set group policies such that if an update is available, it installs immediately without requiring users to click a button?

Windows Update Temporary Folder location

Windows Update (and for all I know other MS Update services) appears to download to a temporary folder in the root of the drive with the most free space at the time of the download.

This may be OK for the average PC but is not good practise on servers where the drive with the most free space may be on a SAN or on a non-NTFS formatted drive.

Is there any way of steering the Update service to restrict itself to local drives or even better to specify an exact path for the temporary download folder.

I have been searching the internet for an answer to this but so far drawn a blank. I'm hoping this might be the forum with an answer.

Thanks - Bill
