Security Update for windows XP (KB2481109) always failed. I attempted to install it many times but it's always failed. I need to know how to fix this problem. Please...^_^

Hi,

We are experiencing some strange behaviour with our WSUS server and clients. At first glance, all seems well; the clients show the big green tick to say all is well and the server shows the clients communicating and checking in. However...

A closer inspection of the client shows the last update happening a good while ago, like more than a month despite the client showing as having checked the server for updates today.

On the client, we have cleared the download cache and the server has been rebooted but no change. There is nothing untoward in the logs that I can see.

Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Just started happening.. our SBS 2008 server is not downloading updates, yet if I use the "windows update" and check online there are multiple updates to download.. here is a portion of the WindowsUpdate.log file

we did download a SQL server 2005 sp i believe last week.. and it is using the internal database..

Unable to download and install patches through windows update in windows 2000, Error number: 0x800C0002?

Not sure why the computers and servers in my environment aren't receiving all updates (ie. service packs). I am fairly new to WSUS but it appears from my reports that patches are being pushed out. 

When performing some client operations for testing patch installations, WSUS 3.0 is very slow.

- When deleting a computer from WSUS, then rerun "wuauclt /detectnow /resetauthorization" on the client, it takes more than an hour until the client is visible again in WSUS.

- When changing a group assignement of a client (have GPO group assignement), it takes also forever until WSUS detect that this client should be in another group (after the client is rebooted and successfully applied the new WSUS client targeting GPO setting).

 

Any advice how to "accelerate" WSUS processing? Restarting the WSUS Service doesn't help. We are using WSUS for SW distribution as well (Local Update Publisher) and this slow processing is a big problem for testing new installations. Thanks in advance for any advice.

From the client side, everything works fine. no errors in Windowsupdate.log, no GPO errors etc.

I've added several more Target Groups in my WSUS 3.0 admin console. However, they are displaying in the right pane in the order that I've added them. I would like to have them display in alphabetical order. I recall fixing this a couple years ago but for the life of me cannot remember how I did it. I am at wits end. Here is a partial screen shot of some of the target groups.

 

I have a windows server and a wsus server. I have problems with my users not doing there update. I go in the server and then change the group policy to:

I have a question about update distribution in wsus. We have windows 2008 and wsus installed on it. It provides updates to 140 PC and approval mode is automatic. Imagine it gets 20 updates for windows 7. wsus installs 11 updates first and wsus pushes the PC to get the rest of them (9 updates) the next time the PC gets restarted. Why the PC doesn’t get whole updates once. Is there any priority order for updates to get installed?

After recent update installation WSUS ineternal database (on Windows Server 2008 R2, installed from ServerManager) become broken (could not connect to DB). Reverting updates back nothing was changed. Looking to various posts I was unable to find any way to restore internal database (I have DB files backup). So I think that WSUS reinstalling will be easiest way to do it. However I cannot remove WSUS from my server with the following error: Event ID 7042

I have 17 vista clients in my network, and only one of them is being offered IE9.  They are all on SP2, and all have the same updates installed.

I also have 5 Windows 7 machines, and all 5 are being offered the update.

Does anyone know how I can remedy this situation, as I don't want to install IE9 manually on all the Vista machines?  Also, IE9 is not being offered to my 2008 SP2 server.

WSUS 3 sp2 on 2008r2 has marked Internet Explorer 9 for Vista update as 'not applicable' for all of our Vista SP2 PCs. The two IE9 prerequisites are also installed on the PCs as well.

Looks like a bug to me. Interactive installs work fine on the workstations.

Has anyone successfully pushed IE9 to Vista SP2 through WSUS?

Humble apologies if this has been asked, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I have an issue where our WSUS Server has crashed and is unrecoverable. :(
In my favour, I have another Windows 2003 server I can use, but not sure how the client PC's will react to the server name change.

 

I have managed to save the actual 19g of WSUS Content updates, but not sure where to go from here.

Am I able to

- build new server and patch it up.

- install WSUS ready to go.

- copy the 19gig of update files to the new WSUS Content folder without issue

- run up WSUS and it will know about the 19g of updates?

- change the GPO to point to new server name

and the big question - will it all work?

Will the Client PC's "just work" with the new server? or do I have to do something via script to each one (I've been reading too many pages of weird/conflicting info).

I realise I will have to go through the x-thousands of updates and approve/etc but once approved, will they all send out even if the PC's are patched? Or does WSUS take the update history/settings from elsewhere on the client PC since the data is lost on the old server... ?

Or is there more to it than that?

We planned to use WSUS server for patch management.

It is hosted on windows 2008 and all my infra are on windows 2008.

We need script so we can modify windows update agent on each server to pull the update from WSUS server.

Using WSUS 3.2.7600.226 SP2 on a domain server. Had issues with Windows 8 Enterprise Edition getting updates from it, but it appears these issues (or at least the error messages) were solved when I applied KB2734608 per the instructions provided by the KB article. So I moved the Windows 8 machine from the lab environment to our live environment (after applying KB2734608 in the live environment of course). Now, after 1 day I note that WSUS says this computer needs 58 updates (all language packs). But when I go to the Win8 computer and check for updates, it says no new updates are available. Even deleted the computer from WSUS and using the wuauclt command line options /detectnow and /reportnow I added it back to WSUS. WSUS again states the Win8 computer needs 58 updates and Win 8 says no new updates are available. I'ved checked and confirmed that not only has the WSUS completed sync with microsoft, but it's also downloaded all updates. I even re-synced and waited for download to complete. WSUS still shows this computer needs 58 udpates while the Win8 computer says none are available. Again, the 58 updates are all language packs. All other updates download and installed as they should. This Win8 computer does not have Office or any other software installed on it that would want those language packs. So I'm confused. The workstation has Windows 8 Enterprise build 9200 90 day evaluation version. I have 87 days left. Do I need to apply KB2720211 to the WSUS server? Is this even a WSUS issue? Or is this a Windows 8 issue? If the latter, would you please point me to the Win 8 forums? Thanks.

I have found  %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\wsus . But there is only the server name in it. Where is the port number ?

I got a problem we have a couple of server running one of them is running sccm with wsus but now we have configure through group policy that all clients must contact this wsus server for update's. Now the clients shows up in the wsus console.somereportand othernot.

i try some command:

wuauclt /reportnow

wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

Client is still not reporting to WSUS.

We have an internal network that does not connect to the internet. I move WsusContent over from an external network server using an external hard drive. we follow the instructions for moving the metadata using export and import and everything seems to be working fine on the internal WSUS server. My only problem is that everytime after I do the import the Wsus loses all the previous defined approvals and declines. So I have to go over all of them again. Is there a way to avoid this??
