IE 10 Import - Install Error (0x80070643) WSUS

I am currently in the same situation as many others; I have imported IE10 via the Windows Update Catalog, and am unable to install it from WSUS on any machine.  I am able to install IE10 by checking directly online for updates, and by manually installing from the executable.

Some seemingly relevant information I have found:

Importing the IE10 packages (which added up to roughly 600MB) occurred almost instantaneously; there was no "download time".

After importing, nothing seemed to have synchronized to the WSUS server.  I manually synchronized, and nothing new was downloaded.

Although the update appears in the console, and the update appears to the client from WSUS, and the client is able to start the update process, the files do not seem to actually exist (as far as I can tell).

I have tried installing to Windows 7(32), Windows 7(64), and Windows 2008R2(64).  All of the platforms I have tried are able to install IE10 directly from Microsoft through Automatic Updates.

I have received the following error codes:

Does anyone know where the installation files should be located under the WSUS directory, or anything else I may be able to check?  I've found several other posts with the same problem no apparent solution found.

IE 10 will not install from WSUS

I have the latest WSUS running on Server 2008 R2 and about 300 Win7 x64 PC. I initially blocked IE10 by not approving it. But now I have approved it and it will not install. The status per machine is "not applicable".

I have NOT used any "block IE10" tool at the PC level.

I have NOT used any "block IE10" tool at the group policy level.

All I did was "Not approve" it and then several weeks later "Approve it".

Any ideas?

Wildcard certificates with WSUS 3.0 SP2

Hi,

I'm currently building a new WSUS server based on Windows Server 2008 R2. I'd like to use SSL for this particular deployment and believe that I have followed the correct steps to get this up and running. Despite this, I can't connect to the server via the WSUS console on the local machine (I get the error "Cannot connect to <FQDN>. The server may be using another port of different Secure Sockets Layer setting.").  I'm using a third-party issued wildcard SSL certificate. Browsing to the default website in IE works fine and there are no certificate validation errors.

I understand that others have had similar problems in the past with wildcard certificates.  I'd be grateful if someone could provide a definitive answer as to whether you can use a wildcard certificate with WSUS?

Thanks.

Client doesn't register with New server

Test client is Windows 8

New WSUS server is Server 2012

I created a test OU and applied a GPO to point test client to the new WSUS server but it never appears in the All Computers group.  I did check the registry and it seems that the GPO is pointing it to the new server.  I ran the clientdiag tool and it returns:

WSUS Client Diagnostics Tool

Checking Machine State
        Checking for admin rights to run tool . . . . . . . . . PASS
        Automatic Updates Service is running. . . . . . . . . . PASS
Background Intelligent Transfer Service is running. . . PASS

GetFileVersion(szEngineDir,&susVersion) failed with hr=0x80070002

The system cannot find the file specified.

If I do wuauclt.exe /detectnow from an elevated command prompt I see an event 1001 containing the following:

To the untrained eye, it seems there is a fault in the server.  Am I correct?  Is there a tool or methodology to troubleshoot the server with?

Thanks o all who reply.

WSUS clients not adhering to reboot time set in GPO until after some updates run and one reboot occurs.

New GPO that points clients to new WSUS server location, scheduled time to update is 2AM.  Move PC to the container with this GPO, gpupdate, and background (no reboot) updates kick off immediately.  Then, in event viewer more updates schedule to install immediately (in the case of this test PC - 10:48AM), and sets itself to reboot (waiting the 30 minutes set in the GPO), right after update (which is the wrong time).  After reboot, in event viewer more queue to install, but now says set to reboot at the proper time, the next day at 2AM.

These are older clients (updates not run in years) and a brand new server, and all I can think of is that there is some update for the clients to follow the time properly from the GPO setting regards the time to install?

Here are the GPO settings.

Thanks

WSUS Clients not Receiving updates

I have multiple WSUS Clients that suddenly stopped receiving updates as of 2 weeks ago. On the Client they show as up-to-date but on the WSUS console it shows the same Client needing updates.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Have looked through all these threads trying to find a fix my 0x8024401f errors.

Windows Server 2012 with Update Services 6.2.9200.16384 installed

Windows 7 64 bit clients getting WSUS info via GPO (GPO is working fine)

Windows 7 clients show me available updates but fail with 0x8024401f error.

Have checked IIS permissions, all seems in order.

Windows 7 not updating from SBS2008 after KB2734608

$

All,

I have issues with some Win7 clients not updating from an SBS2008 wsus.
I'm aware of the multiple discussion that have been going on with regard to KB2720211 & KB2734608.

What has been done so far:

  • since KB2720211 caused issues I waited to deploy
  • deployed KB2734608 following the article
  • In the article its states: " Update 2720211 is included in this update and strengthens the WSUS communication channels." I assumed this would fix the issue.
  • However, after installing KB2734608 I still have issues on "some" Win7 desktops. WinXP is ok, server 2008 & 2008R2 are also OK.
  • Tried the command lines as described in KB2734608, forced WSUS connections, forced WSUS registration, nothing helps.

So what now? Should I install KB2720211after all? Even if KB2734608 has already been installed on the server?

All help is appreciated.

Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 setup wizard not displying

Hello

Thanks for reading my post.

I am setting up a test SCCM system but I am having an issue with WSUS setup

I am running a Windows 2012 Server, I am going to

Server manager - Add rules and features Wizard - Adding "Windows Server Update Service" adding both  WID Database and WSUS Service, the Wizard runs, then in the Server Manager I run post install tasks - but nothing happens - from the documentation a "Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 setup wizard" is supposed to run, I have tried remove and reinstall the Service.

I have ran MS update - that did not help - Anyone got any thoughts

Hi guyz,

I'm new on this forum and with WSUS too.

I'm making some test in my company in order to perform a full windows update management through WSUS but I have some pending questions. Before asking the community to give me a hand, here is my environment : Windows 2008 R2 for WSUS server and Windows 7 Pro for clients. I've set WSUS to run with the 4th. level (auto download and install update, scheduled every day at noon)

1. After tests on 3-4 computers, it seems that Clients are automatically downloading updates but wait for a shutdown to install updates. I've noticed that it's not possible to make and "Install and Restart" but only an "Install and Shutdown".

After a quick check on Windows forums, it seems that it's because on Windows 7 and that this option was available on XP but not anymore since Vista.

Is there any chance that it's possible to manage that because shutting down computers is not the greatest solution for some departments that need an 24/7 available remote computer ?

I also have to say that GPO are settled to prevent restart of the computer if someone is logged on.

2. If I can't change the fact that only a shutdown will proceed to the Windows Update, is it possible to send a pop-up like with the "/msg" or "/net send" command in DOS that will inform people that a shutdown will be require to perform the update on their computers.

Indeed as we planed the WSUS GPO to run at noon, people may be out for lunch and will not see the small message from the taskbar that allows the run/postpone/cancel for windows update.

Thanks.

Updates not approved in WSUS --- MBSA report

Someone here could help ?

I Read some Parts of this Tecchnet Article Update Management Process, indicated by Lawrence Garvin.

I have a doubt.

I am using wsus.
We will assume that I have started to apply updates (approve updates in WSUS) from 2012.
If I run a scan with MBSA in the computers of my work in the outcome report will show that were missing updates prior to 2012  ?
I didn´t approve any updates in WSUS Before 2012.
Let´s assume that the machines also need the updates from before 2012.
I ask this because the note below says the result would be limited to the scan updates approved in the wsus.
If this is true How Could I know what updates is needed prior 2012 ?

Note

"MBSA will automatically assess missing security updates on target computers based on their access to the live Microsoft Update) Web site.
If the target computer is also assigned to a WSUS server, the Microsoft Update results are limited to the updates approved by the WSUS server administrator.
If the target computer cannot determine its security state based on Microsoft Update and an assigned WSUS server, the offline catalog (Wsusscn2.cab) on the scanning computer is pushed to the target computer to make the security assessment."

Thanks in Advance

How to start over with WSUS?

Hi -

I've spent a good number of hours going over this forum (and other forums) to solve my problem, but can't seem to find a definite solution for this situtation. For a number of years,  I've had WSUS running in my small business environment here in my office and had little or no problems. Over the last year or so WSUS has stopped functioning completely. Honestly, I can't recall now what the original problem/error was or what exactly started it. I believe it was something to do with a service pack or an update of some kind, but I can't be sure. The WSUS console would just blink on the screen and crash.

Anyway, I apologize for my description of the error being so vague. While trying to keep up with service calls and everything else involved with being a small business owner, I ended up just ignoring the problem for a while. A few months ago I decided to tackle the problem, spent a good amount of time researching it and made a few changes to no avail. Things got busy again and I haven't gone back to it till now. The problem has become really annoying at this point, so one way or another I'd really like it solved. As it stands now, the console will open, but won't connect to the WSUS server database at all. All I get is: "Error: Connection Error" and gives me the option to "Reset Server Node" or "Copy to Clipboard". I cannot remember what I did to cause this or what the original errors were before it got to this point. Digging a little further, I find in the event log: Event 18456 - source MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE cannot be found... and goes on to say: The specified resource type cannot be found in the image file. Basically, I made the problem worse.

At this point since I cannot remember what I did, I'd like to "start over" with WSUS if possible. This is running on a SBS2008 Server (the only one) in my office. Is there any way I can get this off the system and do a clean installation of ONLY WSUS? WSUS didn't "come with" SBS. I installed it separate a few months later after I setup the network so I could learn WSUS. We also use the company web site, calendar, fax, remote access, etc... on a daily basis. Can this be removed without permanently effecting the other services or the data in them? I'm a little fuzzy on SQL Server and how that interacts with the other services on SBS.

Any Suggestions? Please let me know what other information you might need to help.

Thank you very much for your time.

Error 0x80072EFE on Windows Server 2003 R2

So I've been struggling with this particular issue for about a week. As a new Technology Assistant with a local library one of my first challenges has been to fix servers that were not updating. One was a simple certificate issue related to Server 2000. This one is a Server 2003 R2 machine.

So some details relevant to the error...

OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.13
Error: 0x80072EFE, Internet connection aborted

Firewall: Nothing third party; Symantec Endpoint was installed but has since been uninstalled and wiped using their utility in an attempt to solve this error

My efforts have taken me through both Knowledge Base articles I could find related to the error. I've gone as far as re-registering the DLLs in one article, along with all of the steps found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836941/en-us

No dice.

I've run the TDSS utility from Kaspersky to find rootkits that typically cause this issue. I've renamed "Software Distribution" with .old after disabling the Automatic Updates service as part of that process. I've deleted the folder entirely. At some point I updated the update agent itself as well. None of this proved successful.

Naturally it won't automatically update and I've been using the actual update website. I can get as far as clicking on Express or Custom before the update website quickly delivers the error message.

I can post Windows Update logs as needed and any other information that any helpful posters might wish from me. The entire Technology Department here is stumped and have left it to me to figure out. It was suggested to go straight here, and I used it once before when I was younger and doing some Windows Seven upgrades. Hopefully there's a solution floating around out there!

Here's hoping this was the right place to post.

Not installing Windows Updates

I'm currently running Windows Server 2012 as a virtual machine on Hyper V on a Windows 8 Professional laptop. I'm trying to install 26 'important' updates, but it's been stuck at 0KB total, 0% for hours.

I'm quite new to this; it was a project thrust upon me. If anyone could at least point me in the right direction to look, I would be very appreciative. I don't know if this will help with recieving aid, but I have this set up so I can finally install SharePoint. The prerequisites for SharePoint won't download because I 'need to run Windows Update'.

WSUS Server not UPDATING/Downloading Updates

Hi,

We do have WSUS that works fine in past months until i declined some updates that i think/thought that are not essential anymore. Example (updates for XP machine) which we dont have anymore XP machine and all other.

then i noticed that WSUS server is not updating/downloading any recent Critical and Security Updates. (which are Automatically Approved is set for this type of updates)

then i set another Rule to Approval for - Microsoft Security Essential to approve also - But it's not downloading the latest updates ( so i have to do a manual import then approved those updates)

i am not sure what went wrong or from the above scenario, can anyone tell me what did i missed or any thoughts?

thanks

anthony

Hi All,

I am developing an application for managing and listing various windows updates installed on WSUS server. I was able to synchronize WSUS server but i am gettingtimeout exceptionafter synchronization process randomly on subsiquent call to get wsus configuraiton(using IUpdateServer.GetConfiguration()).

Had anybody faced such issue ?

I tried to get the server status using IUpdteServer.GetStatus(), but it doesnt provide low level information on whether the wsus server is busy in some process or not.

my thought was to check the server status before each IUpdateServer call.

Awaiting to hear from you.

Regards

Vipin Kumar Mallaya
