Rebuild of WSUS failed due to Reset Process in Progress

I was trying to move WSUS_Database from one drive to another. I have internal database not SQLServer express on server.

The WSUSUtil movecontent did not work because WSUSUtil is not installed ion the server (admins console is). I tried to delete database by selecting no content on server in files and locations. That started a reconfiguration that did not end. I then removed the WSUS role and re-installed (after reboot). Now I get post configuration failure:

Generation of encryption key to save to the database failed. Error=System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot save configuration because the server is still processing a previous configuration change. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: spSetConfiguration was called while a Reset Process was Needed/InProgress cannot change Configuration at this time

StartServer encountered errors. Exception=Cannot save configuration because the server is still processing a previous configuration change. Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.CommandException: Failed to start and configure the WSUS service

How can I get this working and clear the pending process?

Hi,

Can any only please help me on this issue.

We have a critical server and it is added in SCCM phase for server patching.

But now the issue is, In SCCM maintenace window report, its always showing need 0 patches and its no required patches displayed.

No issue with WMI also, logs shows scan process completed successfully.

If it is the issue with WSUS client agent, can any only please provide me the steps to rebuild WSUS client agent or please suggest me the solution for to fix this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks.

I have started to notice an issue with the reporting by wsus. I have a computer group Server 2008. It contains 4 computers (eg c1, c2, c3, c4). A new computer (c5) was setup. All the policies were applied and it showed up in the Unassigned Computers group. I changed the membership to Server 2008 and it showed up there. But then I noticed I still have only 4 computers in the group (c1.c2,c4,c5). Computer c3 got dropped. I rdp to computer c3 and did a wuauclt /detectnow and wuauclt /report now. Guess what? Computer c3 showed up directly in computer group Server 2008 (not in unassigned computers). But now computer c1 got dropped off. I still had only 4 computers in the Server 2008 group. I repeated the process with c1 and c5 dropped off. Can somebody explain what is happening and how do I remedy this. Thanks

WSUS Client doesn't report to status after changing the server to relicate mode

I've got a problem with a new WSUS Server, after changing it to replicate mode. After the change the one client, I'am testing the functionallity at the moment, doesn't report to the server. So I think there is a problem with the first server wich is the upstremserver. On the upstreamserver was once LUP installed, that was before my time.

That is my environment

Upstream Server is a Server 2008 R2 with  WSUS 3.2.7600.226 (Local Contend store)

Downstream Server is a Server 2012 R2 with WSUS 6.3.96000.16384 (Clients set to download from microsoft)

WSUS in Windows Server 2012 R2 is not downloading update files.

I'm not using Proxy server and this is the only WSUS server in our environment and update source is to sync from Microsoft Update site.

Synchronization completes successfully and every update files is not downloading. When I look at the download status from the main page, it said it downloaded, but when I look at the files from updates folder, it said failed to download.

I'm getting following error messages:

Content file download failed.
Reason: The server does not support the necessary HTTP protocol. Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) requires that the server support the Range protocol header.

Deploying WSUS Server 2012

Hi,

I have two separate domains without trust relationship and couple Windows 2003 systems on a workgroup.  I am planning to setup WSUS on Windows 2012 standard server to provide updates for both domains and workgroup systems.  Can I setup WSUS on a workgroup and point both domains and workgroup systems via registry?  Is that going to create an issue to update both domains and workgroup systems? Is this the right setups below to point systems via registry?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate:

"TargetGroupEnabled"=dword:00000001 "TargetGroup"="Managed Workgroup" "ElevateNonAdmins"=dword:00000000 "WUServer"="http://wsus1.domain.com""WUStatusServer"=http://wsus1.domain.com

Thanks

Non-domain computer WSUS entries keep getting reset

We have a non-domain member laptop. So it does not get domain GPOs, confirmed by RSOP. Somewhere along the line someone entered the wrong WSUS server into gpedit.msc for the WUSERVER and WUSTATUSSERVER: http://server02:80. Whenver I try to change it to the correct server (http://server01:8530) using gpedit.msc, something changes it back to server02. I searched the entire registry and can't find where it's set other than the standard WUSERVER and WUSTATUSSERVER locations. Where else could this value be stored and how to I get this laptop to check in with the proper WSUS server?

Hi all

I put a request through for hotfix kb2661001 but when I try to apply it to my test server (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) I receive the "Update is not applicable to your computer" error. I have double-checked we do not already have it installed. Any possible cause for this?

Thanks

hi,

I have installed successfully the Patch NDP20SP2-KB2656352-x86.exe on window server 2003 which also has .net framework 2.0 .

I am facing the validations issue while accessing one of the .aspx page.

Error is"Operation is not valid due to current state of the object".

When I revert this patch my issue gets resolved.

Please suggest on this.

Hi All,

I'm planning to deploy WSUS server for 4000 servers windows update management. But I have below queries on deploying.

1.) How many servers can contact single WSUS server at same to download updates?

2.) What is the hardware configuration would you suggest for this deployment?

3.) if you thought I need to go for load balance. then which method you suggest. like down stream server method, NLB etc?

Thanks in advance :)

I have windows server 2012 installed with WSUS using port 8530 as default. I need to migrate my client PC's which are connected to wsus on server 2003 to Windows Server 2012. As you know, the default port on win svr 2003 is port 80. btw, WSUS on server 2003 is a replica server. So, during migration process, I'll just point the upstream server to wsus 2012. I've tested it and it worked just fine. My problem is the default port of windows 2012 wsus is 8530. Is there a way to change the default port into 80? Or is there any way (without changing default port on server 2012) to migrate without any errors? I'm worried that all client PC wont be able to connect to Windows server 2012 after migration.

WSUS Report - Updates approved per group

Hello all,

I'm trying to figure out how to get a report in WSUS that would show which individual update is approved for which of my WSUS groups?  It would also need to include inherited approvals.

Something like this:

Title              GroupA        GroupB        GroupC        GroupD
KB12345        Y                     Y                   Y                Y
KB54321        Y                     Y                   N                Y
KB00000        Y                     N                   N               N

Is this possible with Power Shell or a database query?  I'm not quite sure how to make a script that would work to display with that output.

I can make an update view with a single group picked and the "Updates are approved for a specific group (not including inherited approvals)" option, but that does not help me much since many updates are approved for All Computers so I don't see the inherited updates in the list then when I do it per group.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Hi there,

I have just recently installed server 2012 and I was having problems with wsus so I uninstalled it. After uninstalling WSUS I keep getting this error"The request to list features available on the specified server failed. The operation cannot be completed, because the server that you specified requires a restart."

I am not able to add or remove any features now and all the features boxes are in red.

Also when i log in as administrator its logging on as a temp account.

Any ideas????

Question on nested groups

I've created nested groups for our sites under a workstations group.  I was wondering if there is a way for the workstation group to show the status of all of the subgroups the way the "all computers" group shows everything.  Right now the workstation group I created shows 0 computers and the nested groups are each showing the correct information.  I just wanted some way to look at one place to see all computers from the nested groups underneath it.

MSXML 4.0 SP3 not in WSUS updates???

This update (MSXML 4.0 SP3) is not available in my WSUS Server. I have tried to import the service pack but when searching the Microsoft Catalog it is not found. I am tryuing to update my WSUS server with this service pack for workstations in my domain.

The WSUS support site states that WSUS should update with a new catagory "Microsoft XML Core Services", which will have a granular approach to selecting xml technologies. This has not happened on my server.

Any ideas on how I should proceed on updating my WSUS server so that this Service Pack will be installed?

Windows\SoftwareDistribution Folder Cleanup Automation

Hi -

I have a number of machines with a bloated Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.  I usually address this by:

  1. Stopping the Automatic Updates service.
  2. Deleting the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.
  3. Restarting the Automatic Updates service.

I'm considering using a computer startup script to perform this task automatically.  Does anyone have a more elegant method of automating this task?

Thanks in advance for your input.
