We have 90 windows 2008 servers and every month we do a manual patch these servers.
WSUS server pushes the patches to the servers, but we need to login to all servers and manual to do the installation.
How can i automate the update installation on all servers?
Is there any script which can initiate the update on these servers?

I have been investigating an issue with Remote Assistance within my company for the past several days an i think i have narrowed it down to the DNS server.
The DNS Server seems to have an IP version 4 address and an IP version 6 address. when you ping the device the DNS returns an IP Version 6 address.
When i remove this addreess from the server the Remote assistance starts working again. my networking guys tell me that they do not rout IPv6 over the wide area network, however they do over a local area network.
my guess here is that a local DC is registering the IP Version 6 address in its DNS and then replicating itself to all my other DC's causing computers to try and communicate using IPv6
So i am thinking that i need to switch all the computers to Prefer IPV4 over IPv6.
Is there any potential problems in inacting IPv4 over IPv6 over a the entire environment?
Environment Setup:
49 Domain Controllers in mixed mode between 2003 / 2008 and 2012.
16000 computer's give or take 1000.
SCCM 2007.
Orchestrator
Exchange 2007 + 2010.

The name of my WSUS server is [WSUS.domainname.com]. When I open the console locally on the server initially, it shows the short name of the server (WSUS). This works great I can expand and look at computers, updates, reports, etc. However, when I close the console and open it again it keeps the short name and adds another instance of the FQDN as well. This keeps happening.
Thus, if I open/close the console 10 times I will see 10 "Servers Administered from This Console". This doesn't happen if I connect remotely to the server. My remote console just shows the FQDN being managed from the console. Any idea what is going on? I'm worried something isn't configured correctly on my server. Thanks.

I upgraded a Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 R2 a couple of weeks ago. Everthing seems to be ok except the Windows Update Service. Whenever i started the check for Update the check never completes - i have to reboot the Server. It doesn't matter if i check with WSUS Server (Default) or check online.
Similar when i try to stop the wuauserv - stopping forever - reboot
i checked the windowsupdate.log - i does not show unusual message
When i do a:
c:\Windows\system32> wuauclt.exe /reportnow
or just without any parameter
Nothing happens!
It seems that the program stops imediately and nothing happens.
What i tried so far:
1) net stop wuauserv --> stopping
Rename c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution ; reboot - same problem
2) remove the wsus entries from the registiry --> Reboot -> same problem
3) remove the Wsus entries in the Registry under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
SUSClientID & SUSClientIDValidation ; removed the Client from the WSUS Console ; reboot --> same Problem
4) i could install the updates with wusa.exe --> no problem
any ideas ?

I need your advice on the setup of the replica servers. I currently installed a WSUS replica downstream server on one of our locations for the clients/servers in the same place to get the updates locally.
Now we are on Server 2012, on this box has WDS service working and I have decided to setup a WSUS replica here. So added WSUS role & SSL is enabled, so ports 8531 & 8530 are allowing traffic on the replica server. Now synching works fine with the upstream server as far as updates & computer GROUPS were synch fine. Now the issue, is the computers are not showing up in the computer groups for the replica server in contrast with the upstream which has the computers. What could be the reason?
I have configured already the GPO for the clients intended to get updates for the replica, client side targeting & "Specify a MS intranet location..." is configured with the REPLICA servername:port. Am I missing anything? Please help..

Hi, I'm trying to install WSUS for SCCM purposes for SUP role. Here are the steps I did:
1. Install SQL Server 2012 with instancename: SCCM
2. Installed Configuration Manager 2012 R2
3. Trying to install WSUS but it always says that it requires a restart.
Tried to restart the server but same results. In installing the WSUS, I followed based on this instructions:

Hi, I have several clients that point through GPO to wsusserver1.
Now I deployed wsusserver2 and modified GPO in order to point to this one, but in wsusserver2 console, in computer list, I cannot see my clients. They are still handled by wsusserver1. How can I say "wsusserver1, don't manage my clients anymore, let do it by wsuserver2"? What happens if I delete the client from wsuserver1?
(Obviously I verified that the new policy has been received by the clients).

I am sitting with a tricky one.
I need to export/download the updates on our current local wsus server which is a downstream server from another site.
I have a server on a isolated network that i need to install updates on.
Now the updates that was approved by corporate is the only updates i can install and is currently sitting on the wsus server.
How do i export these updates from the wsus server for standalone installation on o app server?
As i read up on this i understand i can only export the metadata (contain all the updates) to another wsus server.
But that is not going to work. I need the installation files.
Any help on this.
I would like to install the Win7 Pro SP2 update to several clients thru WSUS actually thru System Centre Esentials but that makes no difference for this.
Have approved Win7 SP1 for a group of clients. The client sees the update and says there is one important update available. However we have scheduled to automatically install all updates at 13:00 hour every day. At the time of 13:00 hour it looks like he does nothing. At 13:14 looked at the client and there was a exclemation sign near the start button which states that the client must restart. I did that restart the client but nothing seems to happen.
Windows update keeps saying that there is a update available. So i start the update myself in Windows Update (now update). The update starts (that is: a screen appears) but no indication bar so it seems that nothing happens although the system is slow. In task manager there is no process which needs much processing time.
How can i best install this update sp2 fully automatically without user intervention or only a restart after installing?
I cannot see anything in the log besides some certificates which are not supported because of the time, but the time system is fully ok.

After running the command to move my content to a new directory "wsusutil movecontent G:\Content\ G:\move.log" the WSUS console opens but after a minute it errors that it cannot connect to the database.
My SQL instance (remote SQL server to WSUS) is running at full CPU.

The errors at the end of this log are repeated ever since. I left it last week as I thought it might take a few days to update the database after the movecontent change (plus I was on holiday) and have since restarted both SQL and WSUS servers.
Any ideas (other than re-install)?

For security reason, I deployed a WSUS in a disconnected network without joining domian. I followed this article exactly.

I have viewed most posts in the forum including copyed the subfolder from WsusContent. However, after importing the metadata and approving the updates, their status were downloading. The message said "The files for this update have not yet been downloaded. The update can be approved but will not be available to computers until the download is complete."

we have installed windows 2008 Upstream server to Windows 2012 WSUS server and now they are able to sync the updates and but some updates are not able to download so what could be the issue.
whether this design is supported please confirm.
In the console of WSUS into a Windows server 2008 R2, i have any clients in different version XP, 7, 8 and now 8.1 but for this client version 8.1 WSUS report a wrong version Windows 6.3 like first with Windows 8 --> 6.2
Microsoft resolved the problem for wrong version in WSUS console for Windows 8 and 2012 server, but the problem appear again with 8.1 and 2012 R2.
I'm afroid because this issue is know since Windows 8.1 preview exist...
I think there is a bug that not resolved by Microsoft because i have installed the last KB for WSUS : Version
3.2.7600.262
Also i googlelised this problem during 1 hour but i find nothing on this issue ?! If in a Deutsch forum but anyone find an answer...

I'm currently running a fairly small WSUS environment on Windows Server 2003 Standard 32bit within VMware.
IT management have asked us all to start looking at any 2003 servers to upgrade.
Is it possible to do an in place upgrade to on the above server to Server 2008 R2 64bit
My gut tells me to take a long walk off a short pier for even suggesting it :-(, but thought I would check with you all.

I have my WSUS suddenly stop copying downloaded files to its storage. it still using up maximum bandwidth but just does not save the update. Screenshot below show 187 updates needed, 24,154 MB have been downloaded. The 24,154 MB will then increase to about
24,500 MB and then reset back to 24,154 MB.
This is really frustrating for me since I almost ready to roll out. Thank you very much
As the title says really, all Windows 7 etc work a treat, but any Windows 8.1 are not showing...
Any ideas peeps?
