Invalid EventID, Invalid ComputerID in SoftwareDistribution.log

Can someone explain why the SoftwareDistribution.log contains LOTS of the following? It's a 2012R2 server (WSUS 6.3).

"An error occurred while generating the report..." when opening the Status report Window of specific windows updates in WSUS

Hello All,

     Normally we select specific windows updates, the Status report window opens up and then we can look at the details of that specific update and then decide to approve or decline that update. But for some unknown reason (no recent Windows updates or installed applications) when we look through Windows updates to approve, when we select the Windows update to review, the Status report window opens up BUT we get a message box stating "An error occurred while generating the report. Try running the report again or contact you network administrator if the problem persists."

   I  ran the WSUS DB repair script according to the post from "Anne He" from her answer to this WSUS forum question below:

   ....but that has not helped. I still get the same errors. Any other suggestions or is it time to uninstall and reinstall WSUS?

WSUS Multi-Layer Replication Issue

I manage WSUS for a set of networks that don't have internet access. Currently, we have one "master" WSUS server (with internet access) that an WSUS on each isolated network connects to as a replica, and this system has worked fine. However, we're in the process of moving to a more secure network design, which requires an additional layer of replication. I'm trying to set up the first server on the new topology, but it's not downloading updates for the clients to install.

The systems details are:

"Master":  Server 2008 R2, Update Services 3.2.7600.226

"Relay":  Server 2016, Update Services 10.0.14393.0

"Segment":  Server 2012 R2, Update Services 6.3.9600.16384

On both the Relay and Segment servers, the WSUSContent folder is practically empty (only about 10MB of files on the Relay, 0 on the Segment).  On the main screen, the Relay says Updates Needing Files = 0; Segment says needing 5,360 but downloaded 0 of 198GB.

The Relay was set up by someone else, and is set up as Do Not Store Update Files Locally, both the Master and Segment are set to Store Update Locally On This Server, with Download Update Files To This Server Only When Updates Are Approved.  Is this mismatch the cause of the problem?  I found other forum posts saying this can be done, but seems counterintuitive to me.

Does it make sense to decline "superseded" ,"not needed" updates?

We have multiple wsus servers . On one of the servers I write a script and try to decline superseded updates which is not needed  by any client (needed count =0 ) and also not supersedes any other update  .Now if I try to update a new client using that server as update server it only shows 2 new updates but if I change the update server to other wsus servers it shows about 20 new updates.Does my method to decline the supperseded updates correct ?

And one more question:Do all the updates which supersede one update must be apporved or one of them is enough?

Internal database error update sp4 win2003 r2 64bits

I installed wsus on a 2003 r2 64 bit server and installed sp2.Then I installed wsus and continued with windows update updating everything on the server, but I always get the error windows internal database sp4 (KB2463332) 0x80070643.

In the viewer I see:

Windows 10 Pro for Workstations - Not-Applicable (WSUS) for 1803 Feature Update

We've been battling an issue at our organization for several months now regarding Windows 10 Professional 1709 workstations not receiving the 1803 Feature Update that was released in early May 2018.  The main symptom of this issue is that these workstations are showing a status of "Not Applicable" for the 1803 Feature Update which has applied for other workstations.


We have identified that the only workstations exhibiting this behavior show an operating system name of "Windows 10 Pro for Workstations", as opposed to the other workstations' OS (which received 1803 through WSUS successfully) simply named "Windows 10 Pro".  


Is there a separate set of instructions for servicing feature updates to Windows 10 Pro for Workstations through WSUS that we are missing?  These machines are receiving all other dynamic and cumulative updates without issue through WSUS, it is only the 1803 Feature Update that will not recognize as "needed".

Difference between "Security Monthly Quality Rollup" and "Security Only Quality Update"??

What is the difference between "Security Monthly Quality Rollup" and "Security Only Quality Update"??

So far we have received and downloaded the "Security Only Quality Update" in past months via WSUS.

How does one tell WSUS which one we want??

Our current WSUS settings are: Critical Updates, Definition Updates, Security Updates, Service Packs, Updates and Update Rollups for Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, and 2016, plus Win 7/10.

Autonomous downstream server benefits

We have implemented a WSUS server which does not locally store update files.

A customer now wants to implement an autonomous downstream server, using our server as its upstream server.

I am struggling to see any benefit in this scenario over them just implementing their own upstream server. Am I missing something?

WSUS constantly chrashes (Unexpected Error 7053)

Hello,

I´ve recently updated my WSUS Environment from Server 2008R2 to Server 2012R2.

Yesterday i perfomed the 3rd reinstallation of WSUS Role in the last 2 Weeks to prevent that something went wrong with the former installations.

I deleted everything, including sudb to have a real fresh environment.

Since the first installation i constantly get "unexpected error" crashes of the console at some points.
This doesnt´s stress me that much because it was not so often and i could perfom the actions by deleting the wsus file and start over.

But now, If i click on unassigned devices the WSUS Console crashs with an "unexpected Error". I´ve already performed the Steps suggested solutions (deleting WSUS File under %appdata%, add feature HTTP Activation for .net FW 4.5 etc.)

I constantly get a crash error 7053 wenn i try to see my unassigned devices.

Hi Everyone, 

Appreciate any assistance you can provide on this.  I am having trouble installing Microsoft Monthly Security or Quality rollups on a Windows 2012 Server R2 server.  All other updates seem to install just fine, ie. Microsoft office related updates.  I attached the Windows update log, hopefully someone knows what the problem is.

Server 2012 R2 gets superseded updates instead of superseding

Newly Server 2012 r2 installed on a vm gets superseded updates instead of superseding ones which are approved too.Even if I decline those superseded the client won't gets the superseding ones.
Why this happens and how can I solve that?

Do I need anything regarding superseded update expiration after declining it or not?

Computers do not use WSUS

I have WSUS on the network running on Windows Server 2016.
All  computers in the domain receive the GPO that sets the WSUS path, but
many insist on getting updates on Windows Update, as are many computers,
sometimes the internet link is overloaded.
Why do not these computers use WSUS?What can I be checking to fix this?

Our IT security team have requirement to allow only where the WSUS to download and sync the updates in Microsoft

My I know what is the specific site where to download the patches and updates/sync the WSUS catalog  ?

Kindly give me the specific site so I can shared to my team and allowed in our firewall

WSUS - Patching

Hi All,

I am trying to migrate all the on premises server application to AWS environment. As part of this i need some advice on the below

1. During migration, i want to make sure the patching is done every month in on premises and cloud. Does WSUS which is on ONPREMISES can also patch the servers in AWS cloud?
2. Should i need to install SCCM (I dont have SCCM installed yet) to manage both ONPREMISES and AWS cloud infrastructure?
3. Is there any other tool that can be used for patching instead of WSUS and SCCM?

Please advice on your experience

Hello, we have one wsus in one city and have many computers in other city , in other city we have connection via vpn, we do not want for client computers donwload updates from main wsus server, because vpn will load, but we do not have wsus server in brach offiices, can client one computer download updates and share this updates with other computers in branch office?any idea?

Windows 10 1803 Upgrade Issue

 Hi, I'm encountering an issue when I try to download the Feature Update to Windows 10(Business Editions), version 1803, en-us.

On download status, whenever the file size reaches almost 4,000 MB it resets back to 0 MB

Dowload Status

  Updates needing files:                  1

  Downloaded 0.0 MB of 5,561.45 MB

Edit:I noticed updating windows from microsoft also contain superseded updates.If there is a newer update which supersedes old one why the old one should install?
