wsus problem in adding two server from one image

$

hi

I have a problem with two servers one is my antivirus and the other is my App server

I have run a new downstream wsus server in one of my remote offices because I have a deadline to run their servers so I take an OVF from a sever and run these servers from that OVF

( my hypervisor is esxi 6 and my servers are windows server2012 R2)

when i apply wsus policies both server got the policy but only one of them is on my wsus and as i delete it the other one added but not both of them

I'm wondering is it related to the OVF which both servers installed from it?

how could I fix it?

thanks

Windows 2012 updates fail to install - error 0x80070490

Hello to all the experts,

I am struggling with failed windows updates till July/August 2019 - the Security Monthly Quality Rollups fail to install (while other updates seem to install OK). The result is that during GUI updates are installed OK, then during a reboot there's dark-blue screen which says that updates are being prepared, the percentage quickly goes to 12%, then a message about failure and that the update is being rolled back.

After long, long investigation and trying to reset windows updates in numerous ways (which didn't solved my problem), I have found in my CBS.log:

Isn't that mega stupid, that some driver update requires reboot, so Microsoft Windows should reboot, not abort the update and rollback. Moreover it says that "while processing non-critical driver operations".

I have tried to manually install tsusbhub.inf, but got an error "Cannot find the element". Does it have anything with 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND? Only the developer which wrote the code will now...

Anyway, the question is - what can I do about that to be able to install the updates? Did anyone solved specifically THAT error?

Please don't give me answers to reset windows updates with MS-FixIt or Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1 or sfc /scannow or DISM method or windowsupdate.diagcab or manual install of the latest servicing stack. I have already tried all of them without ANY SUCCESS.

Please help!

Edit: Also I cannot install "Internet Explorer 11 for Windows Server 2012 for x64-based systems" from Microsoft Update - in GUI it gets installed and requires a reboot, but during the reboot, the above drivers fail to install and performs rollback.

I can also see, that rollback is not done completely, because in %windir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\ I have found several cpu.inf_amd64_[hash] folders, which hold the same files! (only most minor version number in DriverVer=04/21/2009,6.2.9200.22859 differs).

Also, pnputil.exe -a C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\cpu.inf_amd64_28a40dfa4ffefab2\cpu.inf

fails (Adding the driver package failed: Cannot find specified file).

WInodws 10 and WSUS

We are implementing WSUS in a Horizon View VDI environment.  This questions will be just pertaining to updating dedicated VMs within this VDI environment.  OS is Windows 10 1803

We have the following regedit entries

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

  • WUServer  - server URL
  • WUStatusServer - same as above
  • TargetGroupEnabled - 1
  • SetActiveHours - 1
  • SetEngagedRestartTransitionSchedule - 1
  • EngagedRestartDeadline - 2
  • EngagedRestartSnoozeSchedule - 2
  • EngagedRestartTransitionSchedule - 2
  • TargetGroup - Target Group Name
  •  ActiveHoursStart - 7
  • ActiveHoursEnd - 18

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU\

  • NoAutoUpdate - 0
  • UseWUServer - 1
  • AUOptions - 4
  • DetectionFrequency - 22
  • DetectionFrequencyEnabled - 1
  • AllowMMUpdateService - 1
  • ScheduledInstallDay - 3
  • ScheduleInstallTime - 3

With these setting, the VM registers itself with the WSUS server and computer group.  It will download any needed update, and install at the appropriate time.  I had set these settings wanting to do engaged restart.  IT is my understanding that if the user is logged in it will prompt for a restart - if the user is not logged in it will reboot outside of active hours.  This will be within the EngagedRestartDeadline (my purpose - 2 days).  Then after two days, it will attempt to notify the user to schedule the reboot, allowing the user to 'snooze this'  during the EngagedRestartSnoozeSchedule (again, with my settings two days).  After this period, it will change to a pending reboot (again, for my settings, two days).  However, I am not getting any notifications.  Do I need to add other settings for the notifications within the Engaged Restart process?

windows 10 1909 not correct number version in WSUS

Hi,
I noticed that my computers who have upgrade to windows 10 1909 have not the correct number version in wsus report.
They appears like 10.0.18362.xxx instead of 18363.xxx  (https://docs.microsoft.com/fr-fr/windows/release-information/)

Is it normal ?

error 0x80070002 and/or 0x80070020 on several Server 2008 R2 with update KB4467107 failing and preventing newer updates to succeed

On almost all our Servers running WIndows Server 2008 R2 we have an issue with updating sincekb4467107

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4467107/windows-7-update-kb4467107

This failing update is preventing a lot of newer updates to fail.

Tried the following options but nothing solves it;

- clean boot install
- manual install (also unpacked manual dism install)
- wuagent cleanup

- sfc scan

- chkdsk scan

- dism cleanup
- system readiness installation
- installing latest service stack (kb4516655)

If there is anyone who has more ideas to help. It is a wsus environment and there are a few servers that do not have the issue but also not having that patch installed but others do.

Another typical thing is that the few servers that do not have these issues have a windows update agent version 7.6.7601.24436 (2019/04) while the failing servers have version 7.6.7601.24085 (2018/03).

Checking the servers online gets other updates but then those also fail again. Below some of the errors from several logfiles.

Win10 Servicing Stack updates with WSUS

I have several clients I manage for Windows Updates using WSUS.  The problem seems to be with Windows 10 workstations.  Most of them are on v.1809.  Now that Servicing Stack updates are downloaded along with other security updates, I've been approving them at the same time.  My issue is that on many of my clients' Windows 10 1809 workstations, the servicing stack updates fail to install.  The workstations get stuck downloading the update at 0% and then eventually it fails.  At one client I checked recently, this happened on every single workstation with the current (May) updates.

I've Googled this issue but can't seem to find any relevant posts. I'd be glad to just stop approving them but I'm reading that eventually this could cause problems installing future regular updates.  Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

I am receiving the bellow error on my WSUS 2016 Enterprise server patch version 1803.

I have tried to fix this, using the additional memory method, cleaning up the DB, changing the .net version etc..

Still does not work correctly, it seems to be fine, then bam, just freezes with the below error, which requires a server reboot to clear. I have attempted IISReset, and also restarting the WWW publishing services, to no avail.

I have also rebuilt the server twice, thinking that would help, first rebuild was from 2012R2 where this occurred, to 2016 1607 version with the original DB details,.. Same error eventually.. Then a fresh rebuild with a new server name.. same issue occurs.. I have googled this and it appears common yet no one has yet to fix it..

We are running Server 2012R2 and W10.

WSUS is mostly working fine and has downloaded most of the last batch of files without problem however there are four that are marked "The update failed to download":

2019-11 CU for W10 1809 (KB4523205) and 1903 (KB4524570)

2019-11 SSU for W10 1809 (KB4523204) and 1903 (KB4524569)

Other files download OK.

There are event log entries such as:

Content file download failed.

Reason: HTTP status 403: The client does not have sufficient access rights to the requested server object.

What is happening here - is it just a case of waiting and it will sort itself out as all other files have downloaded OK?

Strange SSL problem

Hi,

We had WSUS on Windows Server 2016 some weeks ago with SSL which working fine.

We have reinstalled our server from scratch recently.

The only difference is that domain server name is not the FQDN used to access it (and used by SSL too).

Clients can connect to the server without error. WSUS console says that SSL certificate can't be verified.

All necessary config (wsusutil, iis) has been done.

The certificate is a commercial and fully recognized certificate (but we have imported CA root just in case).

The event log says error 12012 (API not functionning).

As the certificate is ok, we can't understand why console is not running.

I've tried accessing WSUS using Url https://FQDN:8531/WSUSAdmin, but I've got a blank page. Perhaps it's an error 500, but where can I find the logs ?

Have you some idea about this strange thing ?

Thanks for your help

WSUS is no longer doing updates after forcing Windows 1909

I was asked to post here to inquire if anyone knows why or has a solution.

Bottom line is WSUS via AJ Tek script no longer works.

All I did was download the actual Windows update, manually installed it on each PC, then after day 1 with no anything I then downloaded and applied the Administrative Templates (.admx) for Windows 10 November 2019 Update (1909) at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/100591 and applied it to Server.

However, since then, zero WSUS results via the AJ Tek paid script.

Adam said to post here for any solutions.

Content of my support ticked is below, real identity of domain and server has been renamed for privacy.

1909 was not being made available/pushed, so I manually ran the update on each machine.

However, since then there is not even any "definition" (Windows Defender) updates, which are normally multiple.

Below is the output for 2 days.

Any insight as to why/what?

Today, I even ran this, no change:

Import WSUS approval to security offline environmet

$

Hi there,

I have a problem with a WSUS Solution on Windows Server 2019. We have one online WSUS with Internet connections.

One Offline WSUS in Site A and one Replica WSUS in site B as a Test environment without Internet connection.

The Productive WSUS is also one at site A and one on site B but without network connection to the test environment.

With the online WSUS we get the Microsoft updates and copy all include the wsusutil export metadata and the WsusContent Folder to the Test WSUS on site A. Here we do the approvals. WSUS on site B is configured as a replica, this works fine. After the Test we will Copy the WsusContent folder the exported metadate (with wsusutil) and the APPROVALS to the productive environment.

I could not find a solution to export and import the APPROVALS from the Test to the Productive WSUS Server. We Use Windows Server 2019.

Did you guys have any idear

THX Gerd

Hello,

We have enabled 1903 updates for Win 10 in WSUS and also tried to update via internet but all our 2019 servers still yell 'You're up to date' ...

Are we missing something or do we just need some patience...?

Thanks for comments

Please explain me this WSUS error:

ErrorWsusService.20ServerCertificateValidator.VerifyServerCertificate
The server certificate did not comply with the following policy: WindowsUpdateCertificatePolicy

in Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.ServerCertificateValidator.VerifyServerCertificate(Object sender, X509Certificate certificate, X509Chain chain, SslPolicyErrors sslPolicyErrors)

I can not find any description. What WSUS certificate must have to comply with WindowsUpdateCertificatePolicy? Where are any description about WSUS WindowsUpdateCertificatePolicy?

Thank you

Wsus transfer from online server to offline - problems

Hello all,
at the beginning I apologize for my poor English.
I have two WSUS servers on W2k16, one with internet access (online), the other in a network separated from the internet (offline). Both servers updated, build the same 10.0.14393.2155. I regularly download patches on the server with access to the Internet. Then I use Windows Server Backup to copy the content, execute with the command wsusutil.exe export xml.gz and log, move all to the offline server. There again, Windows Server Backup for recovery, and the wsusutil.exe import command.

I have a problem with the offline server. After accepting the patches, the server starts downloading. But at some point the download stops, the server reports that it needs some files. I check in the logs is error 404 server is looking for files that are not there. I check the path carefully and in fact there are no such files. I go to the server with access to the internet which is the source for him and there are actually no files in the given location, but he does not notify me that he needs some files.

Since I use the Windows Server Backup tool and theoretically copy the content 1: 1 and exports the database and then everything import on the server offline why this happens? Do I do something wrong? Is there any procedure how give updates to Wsus servers without access to the Internet?Maybe this is a matter of incorrect configuration? On the offline server (it is set as primary) as the source of patches we have selected not Microsoft Update but alone on itself (a setting called update source and proxy server).

WSUS showing bad build and CU numbers

First i have noticed this with 1909 version of Windows 10 after i have installed Enablement Package update on one test 1903 PC. It should report 18363 build (like it does via winver), but it shows 18362.

Then i have noticed that it also reports wrong CU number after the dot. Now it shows .449 for both 1903 and 1909 machines, but they are already on .476.

Hi Guys. I've been struggling to resolve a Windows update issue affecting 100's of Windows 10 machines running version 1903 for some time with no luck... We are using WSUS 10.0.14393.2969 on Windows 2016.

What I'm seeing on the client machines is:

There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later.

I've tried the usual fixes, i.e. renaming SoftwareDistribution folder, "UxOption"=dword:00000000, "IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000 but with no luck...

The following referenced article suggests that 0x80070057 may be caused by a proxy issue - however for testing purposes I've completely blanked the IE internet proxy settings, and ensured that 'netsh winhttp show proxy' is showing 'direct'...

So with all this said - would somebody be able to provide a clue as to where I should look next?

Thanks, Ash.

Hi Guys,
I have WSUS set up on Windows Server 2019 and have just testing it on client which is Windows Server 2012 R2. I have approved all the superseding needed updates and most of them got installed on the client. But there are few updates which are showing as needed in WSUS Server console but the client is showing no updates are available in windows update. Have run wuauclt /detectnow /reportnow on client and it is reporting under last status report in WSUS. Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Hello.

I recently upgraded my WSUS host (WID) from Server 2012 to 2012R2.

After upgrade is finished I found, that WSUS Post-deployment configuration failed with the following error:

--------

Log file is located at C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp7AA1.tmp
Post install is starting
Fatal Error: The system cannot find the path specified.

--------

I tried to launch postinstall using Powershell and got the same result.

I also checked if UpdateServices-Services.xml is placed in C:\Windows\System32\ServerManager\ComponentConfiguration folder and contains correct path to WSUS files - everything was OK.

There is the full log:
