WSUS content folder & synchronization problem

$

Actually, our WSUS content folder was full and that's why to reduce the size of the folder I tried the following steps and after that I am in a big trouble.

1. Close any open WSUS consoles.

2. Go to Administrative Tools – Services and STOP the Update Services service.

3. In Windows Explorer browse to the WSUSContent folder (typically D:\WSUS\WSUSContent or C:\WSUS\WSUSContent)

4. Delete ALL the files and folders in the WSUSContent folder.

5. Go to Administrative Tools – Services and START the Update Services service.

6. Open a command prompt and navigate to the folder: C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools.

7. Run the command WSUSUtil.exe RESET.

After all the above steps, our WSUS is not synchronizing and no updates are being downloaded at all. Every time showing "Reset Server Node"

Please help me out as soon as possible.

Thanks

Yousuf

How to prevent servers from auto-restart after WSUS updates are installed

I have a WSUS server to manage Windows Updates.

I set GPO to manage installations.
I set Configure Automatic Updates with option 4 - Auto download and Schedule the install.

I would like to configure servers to INSTALL UPDATES BUT NOT TO RESTART AFTER THAT. Is that possible ?

Need help upgrading Windows 10 Machines with WSUS

$

I have a Server 2016 with WSUS Role installed. I have approved the feature Upgrade to Windows 10 1903 for a test group. The Upgrade downloaded to WSUS just fine and the upgrade downloaded to the Client without issue. The user selected the Upgrade Tonight option vs Schedule (wish I knew what upgrade tonight even means) and the Computer shows it is pending a Restart in the Windows Update settings Dialog. WSUS shows a status of Installation successful and restart required for the following update: Feature update to Windows 10 (business editions), version 1903, en-us x64. We left the machine overnight and it did not Upgrade or at least look like it attempted to upgrade (Does the machine just prompt the user at night?). Is there away to automate the installation of the upgrade without interaction by the users? Our PC's are authorized to install updates on there own every night at 7:00 pm however upgrades don't seem to respond to this authorization. Is there away to force the Install at a specific time without the user interacting with the upgrade?  I really want all of the machines approved for upgrades to install at night to prevent someones machine from getting high jacked by the upgrade when they need to use it. Any guidance would be great.

Thanks.

How to connect to SUSDB provided by WID?

I have downloaded Microsoft management studio, bits for sqlcmd and installed them but I cannot get connected to the database.

For Management Studio I have tried using \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query as found here https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/vedvyas/2014/08/19/following-is-the-steps-to-connect-to-these-windows-internal-database-on-windows-2012-machine-this-to-access-the-wap-configuration-from-the-adfs-configuration-database/

Even tried sqlcmd.

What is the correct method and how do I connect to it?

Why? I am trying to run a query that will help me, hopefully, find out why I am getting tbe dreaded 0x8024000F error. I posted on a Windows 10 forum asking how to turn on verbose logging; but the current method for 8 and such doesn't seem to work.

Thanks!

HI

I've installed my ssl cert and then setup SLL on my wsus server.

Set the bindings for 8351 to the cert and setup SSL on

• SimpleAuthWebService
• DSSAuthWebService
• ServerSyncWebService
• ApiRemoting30
• ClientWebService

Ran the command WSUSUtil.execonfiguresslwsus.mydomain.com

All ran ok , restarted the server and can now not connect to the WSUS console. Looking in event log is see "The API Remoting Web Service is not working" and "The API Remoting Web Service is not working."

Any ideas?

WSUS fails at "Post-installation Configuration" CreateDefaultSubscription failed. Exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for principal permission failed.

WSUS and Server 2019 Download error

I've created several WSUS servers but this is the first time I've run across this particular problem.

I have a domain setup and GPO's to manage my WSUS.

All computers are receiving updates, however, all of them are failing on some updates.  the 11-2019 and 12-2019 and servicing stack.  I noticed a few others like some SQL updates or Sharepoint updates also fail.

All of the other updates like .NET and Office patches etc all work fine.

I'd be happy to provide logs or anything if anyone has an idea of where to start looking for my issues.

Thanks,

Joe

Wsus transfer from online server to offline - problems

Hello all,
at the beginning I apologize for my poor English.
I have two WSUS servers on W2k16, one with internet access (online), the other in a network separated from the internet (offline). Both servers updated, build the same 10.0.14393.2155. I regularly download patches on the server with access to the Internet. Then I use Windows Server Backup to copy the content, execute with the command wsusutil.exe export xml.gz and log, move all to the offline server. There again, Windows Server Backup for recovery, and the wsusutil.exe import command.

I have a problem with the offline server. After accepting the patches, the server starts downloading. But at some point the download stops, the server reports that it needs some files. I check in the logs is error 404 server is looking for files that are not there. I check the path carefully and in fact there are no such files. I go to the server with access to the internet which is the source for him and there are actually no files in the given location, but he does not notify me that he needs some files.

Since I use the Windows Server Backup tool and theoretically copy the content 1: 1 and exports the database and then everything import on the server offline why this happens? Do I do something wrong? Is there any procedure how give updates to Wsus servers without access to the Internet?Maybe this is a matter of incorrect configuration? On the offline server (it is set as primary) as the source of patches we have selected not Microsoft Update but alone on itself (a setting called update source and proxy server).

Server Node Keeps Crashing

Whenever I go to the synchronizations tab, or try to view more than a handful of updates, such as choosing to view updates with Any Status, my Server Node Crashes, and I'm not sure why.

Synchronization has always crashed from the very beginning of the build, when there was only 1 or 2 synchronizations listed.

Here is the error

The WSUS administration console was unable to connect to the WSUS Server via the remote API.

Verify that the Update Services service, IIS and SQL are running on the server. If the problem persists, try restarting IIS, SQL, and the Update Services Service.

I've done what it's recommended, but this is a brand new build, using Server 2019.  It's done it right from the very beginning.

It's on a Dell VX Rail with the following Specs

Xeon Gold 5118 2.3GHz, 2295 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processors
16GB RAM

256GB SSD System Drive
2TB SSD Data Drive

These Specs should be MORE than enough to run a WSUS environment.  Our Environment won't have more than 500 Assets in it.

Can anyone advise me as to what I need to do to get this running?  Thanks

WSUS Console Connection, Error 7053

Hello -

Currently having an issue(s) with my WSUS console.  Each time I attempt to access the console, I get the "Reset Server Node" error message.  Upon inspection of the event log, I am seeing the 7053 error code.  I've removed the wsus file located in the  %AppData%\Microsoft\MMC  folder, run the iisreset command, slightly increased the virtual memory, executed the following command:  "C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools\wsusutil.exe" postinstall /servicing, run a server cleanup and rebooted a couple of time to no avail.

This issue started after our last patch release earlier this month.  I did notice that the server was running out of space, had more added (50GB) and have been dealing with this issue ever since.

Environment:

Server '12 R2, 64bit OS

4GB of memory

WSUS version 6.3.9600.18228

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
