Hello ,

I have wsus in HQ site and other wsus in remote sites configured as replicate mode .All our WSUS manages just servers Clients .

the principal wsus is : wsus1 with computer groups : A

The downstream one is : wsus2

wsus1 manages servers in HQ site and these servers are showen up in group A with target client side option configured in GPO

in our AD , each site has his own OU servers .So my goal is to manage the remote site wsus from the principal one (Approve updates ,...)

i create a GPO for remote site server with target client side = "A" and the wsus server is wsus2 so the client can dowload the approved updates from the nearest wsus .

the issue is from wsus1 server console ( The principal) , i see some remote servers in unssigned computer group and i want these servers to be in group A but event that i can not change their group even i remove option from computer to use just upade server console and not gpo just to unblock this problem.and i check some of these servers , i can see the target client side =A in RSOP report .

any idea?may be my configuration is not good

Hi all,

I'm having issues with WSUS where clients are failing to download updates from the WSUS server.

I'm not sure why because WSUS is set up correctly.

If I take one computer for example:
It is currently running Windows 10 Pro 10.0 (18362/1903) and I'm trying to get it (and all the computers on our domain) to upgrade to 1909.

These are the updates it's failing on:

"2020-01 Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4497165)"
and
"SQL Server Management Studio 18.5"

The reason it failed is vague. "Error: Download failed."

I went onto the computer and ran the PS cmdlet Get-WindowsUpdateLog and returned a lot of complicated stuff I can't even comprehend.

The above error message is shown twice. The above error is for the 1903 update and the second one (which I haven't pasted in) is for the SSMS 18.5 update.

Some updates are getting through to other computers and are successfully installing but then there is a handful which is erroring like this.

Is there some sort of limit of how big the update has to be and then the connection is failing/timing out?

All I am trying to do is update all of our computers to Windows 10 1909.

I'm not sure what could be causing this? Any thoughts?

A company I work for recently experienced a ransomware attack that corrupted their servers but seemingly left their workstations intact. I restored all of the servers from backups made a few days earlier and their business operations are running properly, as is their anti-virus server.

However, WSUS isn’t working properly, and I believe that it’s due to the clients finding a server that pre-dates the last one they were interacting with. The WSUS server correctly identifies and downloads the updates for each client and displays how many and what ones are pending. But the workstations always report being up-to-date when you check for updates from the server. When you check for the updates for an individual client online, it finds the exact ones displayed in the console. But after they’re downloaded and installed, the number shown as pending in the console never changes.

wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow doesn’t make any difference. Can anyone suggest a way to get everything back in synch?

I am trying to run the cleanup of WSUS database

I checked the port 8531 by telnet and it is opened and working.

The WSUS Admin Console is installed on VRPSCCMSU01.

I tried from the Primary Server and also locally on VRPSCCMSU01 itself and got the same error!!!

What else should I check?

Hi! We have a single Wsus Server on premises in our Company.

Recently i've come across the problem of WSUS not synchronizing properly. Following the suggestions in this thread, all is working as expected again.

I wanted to reach out to see if this problem is known and possibly a fix. After updating our systems for May, all of our 2016 servers stopped reporting to WSUS, as well as, our Windows 10 machines. The WSUS server is on 2016 (not reporting also). The strange thing is, all of our 2012 servers are reporting as scheduled. We have checked group policies and could not find anything that had changed. We have ran a cleanup with no positive results. Thank you all for your time.

Does anyone know if there is any benefit on deploying both the WSUS and BITS server role in the same server?

I know this role is not auto-enabled when installing the WSUS server role, but since we it helps to improve data transmission, I'd like to know whether it makes sense.

Hi Guys,

An Admin previously approved the Windows Feature update 1803 to around 200 of our machines. We found that this has caused some machines to break. As a result I have now unapproved the update.

However we are finding that machines that had already downloaded the update are still attempting to install.

Is there anyway to stop this?

I have a top-level WSUS server which feeds several downstream servers for various projects. One of these servers is showing a different set of classifications than all the others. The downstream server isn't new, and the classification list hasn't changed since the downstream server was created.

For example, the top-level WSUS shows:

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this might be occurring and how to fix it?

Greetings,

I am trying to confirm using powershell to get an absolute complete list of all software updates installed regardless of how they are installed.

I have found two commands:

Get-hotfix

and

$Session = New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.Session
$Searcher = $Session.CreateUpdateSearcher()
$Searcher.Search("IsInstalled=1").Updates

e.g. on one server the first command returned 587 and the second 158.

Will both those commands give me the complete list?

Obviously the second command(s) return a much smaller list but Im guessing it would include updates that are not returned by get-hotfix?

I have WSUS Server without Internet connection. Some computers cannot download updates.

When I run the command: bitsadmin /list /allusers /verbose - I have:

1. GUID: {xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}
2. DISPLAY: 'xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx'
3. ERROR FILE: http://*.cab -> WsusContent*.cab
4. JOB FILES: UNKNOW http://*.cab -> WsusContent*.cab

Can I find out what update name is this error??

1) While installing patches manually on 2008 R2 servers Getting message as

"The Windows Modules Installer must be updated before you can install this package.
Please update the windows modules installer on your computer , then retry setup. "

Even viewer error:

2) We have downloaded MSU instaler from below MS link and try to install the KB2533552 on server but it's not installing

Multitude of issues with WSUS on Windows Server 2019

I have installed Windows Server 2019 on a X299 system with a 7900X CPU, 32GB DDR4-3200 ram on a 970 Evo Plus 1TB SSD. The server has 11 HDDs totaling 115TB, running a GTX 1660 Ti GPU and an 850W PSU. The Server has an ASUS 10G NIC installed, and two gigabit NICs (Generally left disabled). The server is connected to a Netgear MS510-TX Multigig switch.

I run IIS, WSUS, and Macrium Reflect. I would have thought these specs were way over the top for what the server is used for. It tends to get the hand me downs from other computers when they are upgraded.

Since installing most things are considerably slower than the Windows Server 2012 system that preceded it. Clients load web pages much slower from the server. File transfers are extremely erratic, ranging from 0 bytes to 1.1GB/s. Writes to server from a client of a (eg) 20GB file will start @ 1.0GB/s then drop to 0bytes for 45 seconds, then speed up for 5 seconds. Remote Differential Compression is disabled (I've tried both).

So, I'm not sure if the following are symptomatic of WSUS issues or more general server issues. But these are the specific issues I'm having with WSUS.

1. Slow to load. WinSvr 2012 R2: < 10 Seconds. WinSvr 2019: 15 - 20 seconds.
2. Does not retain settings. If I select columns, they revert original columns every time I run console, or change screens.
3. Clicking on an update will take up to 20 seconds to highlight and the bottom pane update.
4. If accidentally double click an update twice to view the report the console will crash to the desktop
5. When I select "Any except declined" this is not retained between sessions, or even if I go to computers, or other areas of WSUS. When I come back, it reverts to Unapproved.
6. The order of updates is not retained between sessions or when navigating to other areas of WSUS and back. (I normally like to look at the updates by Approval status, or sometimes by KB article.
7. If I click an update and I want to click another update lower down, holding shift so I can select a group, the selection follows the mouse movement and scrolls very fast. I have to click on a different update then click the original again then move to the last update I want to select while holding shift.

Server is patched to 2020-03. I generally wait a few weeks when CUs are released to let the problems sort themselves out.

I started from scratch, formatted SSD and installed again. Same issues exactly.

Are any of these known issues with WSUS? Are there any fixes? Could this be bigger than WSUS?

Recently there are some updates installed on a client computer but when I login and checked on WSUS, WSUS server got crashed and it seems IIS server is not functioning well. below is the error message on event viewer with event ID: 12042.

"The SimpleAuth Web service is not working."

Hello

I tried to install WSUS on Windows server 2019, But it fails every time with message:

"The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed. the operation cannot be completed because the server that you specified requires a restart"

When I searched for this error, I found the below article that resolve it

But what I asked about and want to understand is why this error appears, I haven't even used WID database in installation I have chosen SQL database

Hi,

I have WSUS on Windows server 2019. I noticed the status is incorrect for some computers. For example, it shows offline on WSUS, but the computer is actually online, or it shows 100% updates installed, however on the computer there is a message saying "You are not up to date."

I deleted one of the computer with wrong status, but the computer won't come back after I tried to reboot the computer, run "gpupdate /force" and "wuauclt /detectnow".

My questions are why the computer get wrong status and how to bring the deleted computer back to WSUS?
