How to accept EULA for update with Powershell 4 on WSUS 2012 R2

I 've writen a powershell script that approve all security and critical update between to dates with Approve-wsusUpdate cmdlet witch is include on PS4 and WSUS 2012R2.

But there is no place in y script where I decide to accept the EULA if it's present.

Is it necessary to force EULA validation or not with last WSUS cmdlets?

If yes how to do this.

Thanks for your Help.

Guys

i have SCCM in the environment, but i have been using a dirty little batch file for years to use a second WSUS 2012r2 server in the environment without any problems, this is cron'ed on every box, all works well

net stop wuauserv
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv" /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v AUState /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v UseWUServer /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v ScheduledInstallTime /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v ScheduledInstallDay /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU" /v NoAutoUpdate /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v WUServer /t REG_SZ /d "servername_goes_here:8530" /f
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /v WUStatusServer /t REG_SZ /d "servername_goes_here:8530" /f
net start wuauserv
wuauclt /detectnow /reportnow

however i tried using this on the script that gets kicked off after sysprep now, before the box gets joined to AD, and WU refuses to patch, meaning patches are being downloaded locally, but nothing gets triggered, tried deleting the entire "Windowupdate" registry, deleting softwaredistribution, deleting wmi repositories, etc, without luck

any ideas ?

Thx

Martin

KB3000850 Fails Every Time

This update does not install so I've had to hide it but I'm concerned there's a security issue now. CBS.log is completely useless as it just says this message but not what path is missing:

Shtd: Failed while processing non-critical driver operations queue. [HRESULT = 0x80070003 - ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND]

The machine is a stand-alone Windows 8.1 Pro desktop with 3 HDDs (SSD boot drive) and is not on any domain but as there isn't a section of the TechNet forum for home-user Windows Update issues I took a guess at which bit might have someone who could shed some light on this.

How to Tell What Updates have Been Installed

$

0

Hi- Windows 8.1 Enterprise workstations, Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter running WSUS.

It seems some updates are installing and some are not. That is, some workstations have received a particular update while others have not.

All are pointing via GPO to WSUS Server. Many are in the same group in WSUS.

Why would some get it and some not?

One in particular is: Microsoft Update for Lync 2013 KB2889923 32-Bit

There are two revisions:

200, 4/14/2015, Not Approved

201, 4/15/2015, Approved/Install

In the "Changes from previous revisions" text box it says:

The applicability rules or prerequisites have changed. This type of change means that the set of machines on which the new revision is offered may be different from the set of machines on which the old revision is offered.

I'm trying to track down who exactly got what...

Is there a record on the workstation besides the list in Programs and Features that tells me what was installed? Trying to scan through that list is difficult for me; I'd like to have a spreadsheet or something I can search programmatically...

Thanx

Update Shows Approved/Install but NOT Installed on Client

Hi- Windows 8.1 Enterprise clients, Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter

WSUS reports that a particular update (KB2889923) as Approved/Install. This update has been installed on some clients but not on others.

It has two revisions:

Update for Microsoft Lync 2013, 04/14/2015, revision 200, Not Approved

Update for Microsoft Lync 2013, 04/15/2015, revision 201, Approved/Install

I looked at the View Update History on my workstation  (one of the clients affected) and it is not listed as installed, as expected, since I don't see any sign of it (It updates Lync 2013 client to Skype for Business), but it IS listed under the Approval column on WSUS as "Install". I have other updates with the same date installed, but not this one. This is the case with a dozen or so clients (out of 50 that's a significant amount).

Thanx

G: drive is missing after installing Server Patches of April 2015

Hi,

We deployed windows server patches to a Windows server 2003 32-bit server. After the restart, G: drive on the server went missing. There are no event logs to identify this. But the G: drive was missing only after installing the patches and restarting the server. Please suggest what could be the reason for this impact and how to prevent this from recurring.

Note: G: drive is not an external drive, its internal.

How to Extract the servers names that are requesting nonexistent computer groups

$

Hi Everyone,

On our wsus server we had to do some group clean up and had to delete some computer groups. Now we're noticing that some servers are still trying to report with the old computer group names. In order to update the GPO on those machines we need to know which ones they are.

Is there a way to extract from the database all the servers reporting with the nonexistent computer groups?

Thanks in advance for the answers.

Jonathan

Fresh WSUS 2012 setup does not create the Win7Sp1\wsus3setup.cab Folder/File => Clients cannot report to the WSUS Server

Hi,

maybe someone has an idea for this Problem:

A fresh Setup of a wsus 2012 (not R2) Server doesnt create the Win7Sp1\wsus3setup.cab Folder/File, so the Win7 and 2008 R2 Clients cannot Report to the wsus 2012 Server.

Here is the Log:

Question:

Does anybody knows  the reason?

Can I rebuild it manually with the wsusutil.exe tool?

One addtitional info: After the Setup the postinstallation process fails, and I had to fix it with the following article:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/reshard_sharps_blog/archive/2013/08/18/wsus-post-deployment-configuration-fails.aspx

Has it something to do with this error, that the Folder Win7SP1 doesnt exist or do we hav 2 different issues here?

WSUS 2012r2 Implementation in an Enterprise Environment

We are going to install and configure WSUS with server 2012r2 but have questions on best practices for installing it in a good size enterprise network.  First, should I use the Windows Internal Database or download SQL Express for use with the WSUS server?

Will WSUS service all the domains in a forest?  Sites with WAN links will have to have a local WSUS to minimize update traffic over the link.  What about non child domains?  Other domains in other forests that have trusts?

Windows 8.1 clients not downloading updates

$

For the longest time, I could not get my Windows 8.1 clients to check in with my WSUS server.  I discovered that problem was due to needing to add the port number for the WSUS server.

Now, that my clients are checking in with the server properly, they are not downloading the updates.  I am able to manually click "Install Updates" if I go to the computer.  I want the updates to download automatically, and install on shut down.  This works perfectly on my Windows 7 computers.

I have a computer lab of about 60 Windows 8.1 computers, and really don't want to go to each and every one manually.

I am running WSUS on Server 2012 R2.  The Windows 8.1 clients are members of a Server 2008 domain.

KB3020369 applying to Windows 7 ?!?!

WSUS 3.0 SP2 on W2K8R2SP1 - Access to table * is blocked because the signature is not valid.

$

I'm pulling my hair out... I've been trying to install this role for 3 days now on a new W2K8R2 server. I pulled updates for the OS from the existing WSUS server so the computer is at current patch level and tried installing the role and the install always fails at "Configuring the database". WID appears to install fine but when the configuration scripts are running through, the log shows they appear to work fine all the way up through the last, "Signing object:...", it creates the logins and gets to Updating [dbo].[tbSchedule] and there are dozens to hundreds of entries claiming that, "Access to table dbo.<insert_table_name> is blocked because the signature is not valid." I've tried dozens of variations of uninstall WID after the rollback of the WSUS completes, delete SYSMSI\*, delete registry entries, reboot. There are dozens of articles on the web of people describing this same problem (mostly related to SharePoint) with the fix seeming to be to run:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Bin\psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b

But that apparently doesn't exist in a base build of W2K8R2 or after the failed install of WSUS.  I've verified that the computer cert is functional and the signing authority is in the Trusted Root Store.

If the above command is a definite fix outside of SharePoint, does anyone know if I can run that binary without SharePoint being installed?  If so, what do I need to install?  The SharePoint Admin tools?

If you're aware of an actual fix for this problem, I'd greatly appreciate the assistance.

Your WSUS server currently shows that no computers are registered to receive updates

I just recently installed Windows Server R2 Std and installed WSUS, this will be replacing my existing Windows 2003 Server configured for WSUS.

* configured WSUS, approved updates

* applied the GPO to a test OU, checked the test server which is also Windows 2012 R2 and it changed the registry settings pointing to the new server.

In the Update Services console it still reflects that no computers are contacting the server for registrations.  I read a few blogs and it has pointed me to the update log.  I initiated a "wuauclt /detectnow"  See log below:

Has the duplicate SUSClientID Issue Been Addressed Or Solved?

This was an issue when I worked with WSUS a couple years ago.  I know there is workaround to run a batch file to reset the IDs, but has a better solution created?  Has an updated Windows Update Agent or updated Sysprep tool or anything else solved the issue?  Is it only an issue with third party cloning tools like Ghost or does Microsoft's own cloning solutions such as ImageX/WDS etc. have the same issue of not stripping or resetting the WSUS client ID?

Seems like the issue should be solved at the source rather than doing workarounds as shown in the link below forever:

update Office 2013 & IE

Hi there, I have WSUS setup to approve Windows Updates for my 2012 servers. Can I use WSUS to approve and install Updates for Office 2013 & IE 10 as well? If so, how? If not, what is other way to install updates for Office 2013 & IE 10?

I open Word -> File -> Account, but I can't find manual update there, so I'm sure how to update it manually.

Thanks.

wuausrv memory leak

Hi Technet,

I have a Server 08 R2 installation with process svchost.exe gradually increases memory usage over time until the servers performance suffers.

Using process explorer, in the handles pane, errors in path C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\datastore.edb
The error:(An error occurred while reading or writing to a file).

Stopping the Windows update service clears the errors, restarting and they appear again.

I have run the Microsoft windows update fixit.

I have renamed the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and allowed it to rebuild its contents.

I have used esentutl to both repair and defrag the datastore.edb, both performed successfully.
However the errors persist.

Can anyone assist in what my next troubleshooting steps would be please?

Thanks,

Andrew

WSUS not working after clean OS install

Hi.

I've just installed a new Server 2012 R2 server instead of the old Server 2008 R2. I installed the WSUS role and configured it exactly as the old one and changed the server name in the GPO (which I see on the clients worked) but no computers can connect to the new server. The server gets it's updates from Windows Update and sync succesfully.

After googling the problem I found one problem.
This link doesn't work: http :// servername / iuident.cab nor http :// servername : 8530 / iuident.cab

It simply states error 404.

Strangely enough these links work fine:
http :// servername : 8530 / selfupdate / iuident.cab
http :// servername : 8530 / simpleauthwebservice / simpleauth.asmx

I guess some permissions was not set during the installation even though everything was next, next, finish on a clean OS.

Links are written in this weird way since this forum won't allow me creating links. Sorry about that.

Can anyone help me. I'd rather not start from scratch since all the updates are downloaded. Thank you in advance.

WSUS failing to download updates event id 364

Windows Server 2008 Standard SP2

Content file download failed. Reason: The media is write protected.

Have read through a lot of posts on this and not got anywhere with it yet. Gone through the dregs of trying solutions to similar problems as well so i'll list what we've tried below (in no particular order):

Reports that proxies/antivirus/firewalls getting in the way of range protocol headers.
- Antivirus and proxies disabled while testing "retry download"
- BITS promoted to foreground mode
[No improvement]

Permissions
- Permissions according to many articles appear to be correct for WSUS content folders
- .cab files mentioned in 364 error not present within their expected folders

Possibility of partial downloads
- Taken note of KB numbers and declined troublesome updates
- Currently running WSUS server cleanup wizard to remove unused update files and then will reapprove problematic updates (not expecting a lot from this but will post up once completed)

Webserver Certificates
- Not using SSL for WSUS so seems inapplicable.

WS 2008 updates approved and installed on server and rebooted

Imported KB's from Microsoft catalogue directly in to WSUS

Think that's about it. Let me know if any of my assumptions are incorrect or if there's anything else we can try.

Thanks in advance.
