Hi All,

The problem I am facing is with windows 2003 R2 and Windows 2008 R2 servers hogging up 100 % CPU via the svchost process which is pointing to the wuauserv service which is the windows update service.

The fix is to  install the latest cumulative security available for the version of IE installed on the server.

on 2003 servers just the installation of the IE cumulative updates fixes the problem and does not require a reboot , this is rare case in our environment.

But in the case of a 2008 R2 servers it requires a reboot after installing the regular patches available with the cumulative updates for IE which comes through WSUS itself. But this is happening on a regular basis for past three months.

My concern is , this is happening in only one particular site with the 2008 R2 servers , the whole site has all 2008 R2 servers and all the servers are affected with the issue , we have very similar WSUS configuration in all the sites and this happening in only one site. we cant afford to reboot the servers before the maintenance window and this is causing a lot of incidents and issues.

My primary WSUS server is Windows 2008 R2 WSUS version 3.2.7600.262, my downstream server is Windows 2012 R2 WSUS version 6.3.9600.16384.  My issue is that I can use the wuauclt /detectnow /reportnow and my 2012 server clients will report to the WSUS servers but then they will sit for days and sometimes weeks not reporting back to WSUS.  Also I have GPOs set to install updates on these clients that the servers just ignore and don't install.  We are a health care organization and are trying to bring in 2012 server but I am hesitant if we can't control updates on these new servers.  I will put the log information from one of the client's windows update log that needs 11 updates in the next thread.  This server is in a policy group that should kick off Thursday mornings at 5am.

I have a rather odd situation with the new WSUS I have built.

In the group policy settings for the OU, I have defined the following:

• 2 - Notify for download and notify for install
  
  When Windows Update finds updates that apply to the computer, users will be notified that updates are ready for download. Users can then run Windows Update to download and install any available updates.

However, when new servers are added to the OU in AD, and gp is applied and new updates get approved, the server proceeds to install selective updates and reboot itself, and it is causing a bit of havoc here in my domain.

We can't seem to chase this problem down. In theory, it should not even be happening because of how group policy has been defined for the OU.

If anyone else has seen this problem or may know what is causing it, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem: when I click on "Synchronizations" or "All updates" it shows loading 99% takes several minutes and the connections displays "connection error". The following error below is in event viewer. How do I fix this?

I have reinstalled wsus + IIS and restarted multiple times.

I have a Win2K8 SP2 running WSUS 3.2.7. I find the server is loosing connectivity with our 2012 server clients. 2003 and 2008 seem to be working fine. I can remedy the issue on the 2012 clients if I Stop and Start the Windows Update service and the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, then run wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow.

I see that the Windows Update service is set to Manual (Triggered). Could this be the problem?

I am having problems with clients installing MS updates. From looking at the windowsupdate.log on the client the problem appears to be related to BITS. I do not have an in depth knowledge of BITS or how it works or what could cause it to fail. If this is the wrong place to post these please point me to the correct place.

We have the need to allow Read-only access to a couple of specific users and wondered if there was a web based tool that would allow that access?  I have tried wsusadmin but no page is available.  Is there an option?

The issue is: Can't view all the computers in my network on WSUS Console

1/ Installed Windows Server Update Services (WSUS)
I followed the steps how to install Windows Server Update Services ( WSUS ) correctly by following steps on technet.microsoft.com

2/ Edit Group Policy Management (GP)
Open "Group Policy Management" Console
by right click "edit" the "Default Domain Policy" and It took me to "Group Policy Management Editor"

I changed the "Windows Update" Setting under "Group Policy Management Editor"
by doing to "Computer COnfiguration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Updates"

I ran the WSUS Server Configuration Wizard under Option on the left panel and followed it by running the 

synchronization.

Change the option to "Use Group Policy or registery settings on Computers."
And click on "OK"

(only 4 computers are showing) all being under the same operating system, missing about 7 computers used as hosts with Windows 7 running on VM

The patching of Windows Server(2003, 2008 & 2012) were done using SCCM on Global scale, where as the Japanese sub-organization unit use WSUS to patch the Server environments. As part of the global standardization activity, we are looking to integrate the Server patching to the Global scale model by moving it from local WSUS platform to the Global SCCM platform. However our client is worried that some of the Operating systems run on Native Japanese language platforms (Windows 2003, 2008 & 2012) and they may miss critical Japanese specific patches, if moved to global SCCM Model.

As per my understanding, all the updates are the same irrespective of the language platform and the same patches that are applicable to native English language servers are same and applicable to any other language servers.

Is my understanding correct Or Do the patches vary based on the Operating system native language pack (based on the patches that are released by Microsoft every month).

I have a single WSUS server (version 3.2.7600.226) running on a Windows 2008 R2 VM.  Devices are happily talking to it and downloading some patches, but the server says that there are nearly 200 more patches to deploy to these devices.  The patches have been approved but the system says they failed to download.  On investigation we are getting the following events at regular intervals 13042, 10023, 12002, 12012, 12032, 12022, 12042 & 12052.  I have searched for fixes to these various but they all require WSUSUTIL.EXE CHECKHEALTH to be run and it doesn't work on our server it returns a FATAL ERROR: Unable to contact the WSUS Service. 

The service is installed and I can run WSUSUTIL for other tasks.  Does anyone have any ideas where I can go next?

WSUS 3.0 SP2 build 3.2.7600.226 on W2008 R2 Sp1 server, just added the 2720211 update. Sync fails, manual or scheduled. Sync is direct to MS with no proxy involved.

Sync logs error below - with the 404 suggesting if can't connect to MS server(s).

The only event logged from WSUS is 10022.

Stopped/started WSUS and BITS services, restarted server

A second WSUS server - without the 2720211 update - syncs fine

Any ideas?

The message "The service master key could not be force regenerated as requested by the -F startup option. The error number is 33094." appears in the Application log on the Windows 2012 R2 server that runs WSUS on our network.

For example:

Nothing bad seems to happen as a result of this message popping up in the event logs, but I'd like to get to the bottom of it anyway.

I've Googled for a solution, but so far I haven't found one.

I've deployed the WSUS in my network recently and I've tried to setting up the email notification.

My email server is Exchange Online (Office 365) and I've tried to use the following configuration:

But, when I take a test, I receive this message: 

Client was not authenticated to send anonymous mail during MAIL FROM
   em Microsoft.UpdateServices.Internal.BaseApi.SoapExceptionProcessor.DeserializeAndThrow(SoapException soapException)

Is there something more I should do?

NOTE: I'm sure the user and password are correct.

Hi Everyone,

On our wsus server we had to do some group clean up and had to delete some computer groups. Now we're noticing that some servers are still trying to report with the old computer group names. In order to update the GPO on those machines we need to know which ones they are.

Is there a way to extract from the database all the servers reporting with the nonexistent computer groups?

Hello, I am just wondering if these lines in the WindowsUpdate log file are worth anything?

I did stop the windows update service, rename the SoftwareDistribution directory and windows update log file and restart the service, but after the second detectnow phase, these entries come right back.

WSUS is reporting the machine is 100% on its updates, so it doesn't appear to be affecting the updates approved by WSUS, but will this cause a problem in the future?

Hello again all,

I'm trying to set up WSUS so I can get SCCM to manage Windows update.

I actually had WSUS up and running last week, but I stupidly right clicked on the WSUS services and tried to change some settings, and now it stopped working.  I've removed WSUS, and re-added it, but everytime I do the "Post-Installation Configuration" It errors out "Fatal Error:  Failed to start and configure WSUS service" and gives the below log

I'm wondering, if there's some sort of database that doesn't remove when I try to "Remove Roles and Features".

I've also tried to go into IIS, and manually remove the "WSUS Administration" node and reconfigure WSUS like suggested in http://networkerslog.blogspot.ca/2012/11/wsus-installation-on-windows-server.html but no success.

We did have a WSUS server running on a Server 2008 box, but that has been disabled in the GPO 

I'm able to get Microsoft updates, and this was working last week, so I know it's not a firewall setting... just don't know what else I can look at.

And I get an error This page can’t be displayed

How do I address the problem of the message.
