Maximum size of a single update metadata.

Hi,

I have written a tool to parse WSUS update file, it parses a single update each time. But my tool takes a huge amount of memory for some updates, as they are large in size. For a update on windows8, the metadata size of a update is 18Mb. I wanted to know if there some maximum size limit on the size of the metadata, for a single update.

Thanks,

Reporting between WSUS Secondary and Primary do not macth

Hi,

Can anyone point me in the direction as to why Updates Needed and Installed Count on a machine that is reporting to the WSUS Secondary which then is reporting to the Primary do not match?  Sycn times and reporting are all good.

From Secondary Server Needed Count shows 80 and Installed Count shows 208

From Primary Server Same machine shows Needed Count as 76 and Installed Count as 162

Why the discrepency?  Both Primary and Secondary Server have 4116 approved updates.  And the approvals are the same for all groups.

Thanks In advance for your help.

Dears,

Kindly note that I am facing an issue with WSUS on Windows server 2012 Standard Edition.

The WSUS is connected to our HQ in a different region but the synchronization is always "Failed". I tried to search around for a fix with no luck.

Attached is a screenshot of the error in details.

If you need any addition details, do not hesitate to contact me as the problem is becoming frustrating.

update Office 2013 & IE

Hi there, I have WSUS setup to approve Windows Updates for my 2012 servers. Can I use WSUS to approve and install Updates for Office 2013 & IE 10 as well? If so, how? If not, what is other way to install updates for Office 2013 & IE 10?

I open Word -> File -> Account, but I can't find manual update there, so I'm sure how to update it manually.

Thanks.

WSUS Install on Server 2012

Hi All,

I am installing WSUS onto a server running 2012.  I have 2 issues that I would like to discuss with the Forum.

1.  When I launch Post-Installation tasks it fails and the generated log file says:

I did not use Powershell for the installation, I used server manager.

2.  During the WSUS  installation, I configured it to use D:\WSUS as my Content Location Selection.  While looking into the above, I noticed that a WDI directory is in C:\windows.  Is this a different purpose from what I configured in the D:?

wuausrv memory leak

Hi Technet,

I have a Server 08 R2 installation with process svchost.exe gradually increases memory usage over time until the servers performance suffers.

Using process explorer, in the handles pane, errors in path C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\datastore.edb
The error:(An error occurred while reading or writing to a file).

Stopping the Windows update service clears the errors, restarting and they appear again.

I have run the Microsoft windows update fixit.

I have renamed the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and allowed it to rebuild its contents.

I have used esentutl to both repair and defrag the datastore.edb, both performed successfully.
However the errors persist.

Can anyone assist in what my next troubleshooting steps would be please?

Thanks,

Andrew

Why can't I install WSUS updates on my Essentials server?

$

I have a simple setup. I have a Windows 2012 R2 Essentials server (Server A) which has the WSUS role enabled. It is syncing the updates, and when I approve them, the client machines are able to install them. However, on the Essentials server itself, I find no way to install updates. Every day the health report says that there are "missing updates" on the Essentials server and I see that also in the WSUS admin tool. But nowhere do I get a prompt to install updates. Note that I only just recently migrated from SBS 2008, so not entirely familiar with 2012 R2 Essentials. I looked all over the forums and other online resources, and have not found anything that has helped to resolve this issue. Note that the same is true for the only other server on the network, a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (Server B). Both Server A and Server B are virtual machines running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard host.  Not sure if that makes a difference with this issue.  But all machines on the domain are getting updates and able to install them.  Note that all the client machines are Windows 7 SP1.  Except for these two servers.  Any clues on how to resolve this would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Got mulitple ADR's (W7, W8, Off2010, Off2013, FEP) these run good. Creaate packages and deployments etc. FEP is updated on the Clients. But my required (week install deadline) for the other updates do not appear in the Software Center most of the times (got two Clients which have no issue.)

Application/package/OS deployment is no issue. It's just the updates not appearing in Software Center.

Running SCCM2012R2 CU4, SQL 2012, WSUS 4 on the same Box.

Nothing looks wrong I just don't see updates appearing.

Anyone suggestions.....

WSUS clients do not find and download updates

Hi,I have about 150 WSUS clients, running Windows 7 Pro x64. About half of them have 20 or so updates pending, even though the updates are regularly approved and the clients are set to download/install every night at 11:00 p.m. The GPO looks to be right, remember the other half of WSUS clients are reporting no needed updates, so it is working for them. The WindowsUpdate.log file shows zero updates detected when I am certain there are some available.

This is what happens at 11

Hi,

we have problems to sync April 2015 Updates from Microsoft!
I synced multiple times in the last 10 hours, but the updates are not synced.

Are there know problems, syncing the newest updates from Microsoft?
Normal Windows Updates is working, without problems!

I also set up a new machine, same result -> no April updates.

We use WSUS 6.3.9600.16384 (Windows 2012 R2).

Thx

WSUS server won't install

$

I have a brand new virtual machine running Windows 2012. After loading all of the Microsoft updates the next thing I do is try to get WSUS running. The operative word being "try" because when I'm done going through the installation steps I get the error message "The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed. The operation cannot be completed because the server that you specified requires a restart." Of course there is no indication as to which server needs to be restarted so I manually try to restart the ones that I know about WSUS Server (Disabled), Windows Certificate Server (Manual), and Windows Internal Database (Manual). Then I try to reboot the server and all of the services are gone as if I never tried to install WSUS.

Does anyone know why WSUS won't install on a clean machine?

Thanks

WSUS roles install on Server 2012 Fails

Hi I m ananda I want to installed wsus server in 2012 server but its getting error

The MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID service was unable to log on as NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID with the currently configured password due to the following error:

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

 Service: MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID

Domain and account: NT SERVICE\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##WID

This service account does not have the required user right "Log on as a service."

 User Action

Assign "Log on as a service" to the service account on this computer. You can use Local Security Settings (Secpol.msc) to do this. If this computer is a node in a cluster, check that this user right is assigned to the Cluster service account on all nodes in the cluster.

If you have already assigned this user right to the service account, and the user right appears to be removed, check with your domain administrator to find out if a Group Policy object associated with this node might be removing the right.

Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!

MS15-049 (KB3056819) is not in WSUS

Hi,

Microsoft just released 13 new patches yesterday, however when I synchronize my WSUS with Microsoft I cannot find the MS15-049 in WSUS. This update is fixing SilverLight vulnerability and I've confirmed that SilverLight is already checked in Products and Clasifications. Anyone have same issue as well?

Thanks.

WSUS 3.0 SP2 on W2K8R2SP1 - Access to table * is blocked because the signature is not valid.

I'm pulling my hair out... I've been trying to install this role for 3 days now on a new W2K8R2 server. I pulled updates for the OS from the existing WSUS server so the computer is at current patch level and tried installing the role and the install always fails at "Configuring the database". WID appears to install fine but when the configuration scripts are running through, the log shows they appear to work fine all the way up through the last, "Signing object:...", it creates the logins and gets to Updating [dbo].[tbSchedule] and there are dozens to hundreds of entries claiming that, "Access to table dbo.<insert_table_name> is blocked because the signature is not valid." I've tried dozens of variations of uninstall WID after the rollback of the WSUS completes, delete SYSMSI\*, delete registry entries, reboot. There are dozens of articles on the web of people describing this same problem (mostly related to SharePoint) with the fix seeming to be to run:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Bin\psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b

But that apparently doesn't exist in a base build of W2K8R2 or after the failed install of WSUS.  I've verified that the computer cert is functional and the signing authority is in the Trusted Root Store.

If the above command is a definite fix outside of SharePoint, does anyone know if I can run that binary without SharePoint being installed?  If so, what do I need to install?  The SharePoint Admin tools?

If you're aware of an actual fix for this problem, I'd greatly appreciate the assistance.

 Hi WSUS Experts,

In our environment we suffer very often from the following problem - donwstream servers after synchronization show all Approved updates from the upstream server (over 3100) as Unapproved. Hence the files are not on the downstream server. Do oyu have any clue on how to fix/approach this problem?

"The service master key could not be force regenerated..." each time WSUS is started

The message "The service master key could not be force regenerated as requested by the -F startup option. The error number is 33094." appears in the Application log on the Windows 2012 R2 server that runs WSUS on our network.

For example:

9:40:59pm The service master key could not be force regenerated as requested by the -F startup option. The error number is 33094.
9:41:00pm The Windows Internal Database service entered the running state.

Nothing bad seems to happen as a result of this message popping up in the event logs, but I'd like to get to the bottom of it anyway.

I've Googled for a solution, but so far I haven't found one.
