We have the need to allow Read-only access to a couple of specific users and wondered if there was a web based tool that would allow that access?  I have tried wsusadmin but no page is available.  Is there an option?

We have an issue where we had to restore complete server from VMDK backup becase of a windows update killed a legacy applicaiton. After they restored it, it got the update again. Is the best method just to move the comptuer to an OU without a WSUS policy? I tried that  and it still got the updates. What other methods outside the box have you used?

I have a WSUS group with 10 servers working fine, updates are being received and it's all nice!

Now i want to move 2 servers of the group "Servers A" to a new group "Servers B" that i just created!

I configured a new OU on the Domain controller and moved the 2 servers to that OU.

I also created a new group policy with the same configurations was the old one, but with a diferent targeting group with the same name as the WSUS group "Servers B". This group policy is linked to the new OU!

The problem i'm facing is that the 2 servers are not appearing on the new group (Servers B) they are still on the Servers A group!

I also try the command gpupdate /force on the clients but the the are not appearing on the new group!

Any help will be fine

When trying to complete the post-installation tasks Windows Server Update Services 4.0 (Windows Server 2012 Role) cannot seem to complete them. This is a member server with Default Roles, WDS, NAP, IIS, and (attempting) WSUS. It is intended to be a Network Management Server.

I get a variety of errors and it appears to be related to the attempt to sync with the Windows Update server on the Internet. I also see an error indicating it does not have permissions to the %Install Directory%\Update Services folder. I looked at the security permissions and the folder I designated to use for the update cache had my account and CREATOR/OWNER permissions invisible on the main tab. Going into advanced, I was able to see permissions and grant full control to that directory.

The 'Update Services' directory was owned by Trusted Installer and I observed the same condition with the permissions invisible in the main dialog and visible in the advanced dialog. I was unable to modify those since I was not the owner.

I have uninstalled the Role Service and Re-installed, with the same results. I did the same thing again but deleted all the folders I could find used by the Service, and no help there either.

When I attempt the post-installation tasks my error logs come up blank now? There are some things recorded in the event logs too if anyone wants to see them. Here is one of the error logs from an early attempt at this Role Install:

Server 2008R2 sp1.

On server, Windows Update is blank; it says "the page failed to load." It is automatically running updates and restarting the server without consent from Admins. Serious problem. But cannot adjust this because the Windows Update page is blank.  Anyone else ever seen this? And what did you do to fix?

We are using WSUS 3.0 SP2 on a Windows Server 2008R2 machine.  I had a couple of machines that were experiencing failures when trying to update and upon review of the WindowsUpdate.log file I noticed some of them have a version 7.6.7600.256 and some have 7.6.7600.320.  One has core 7.6.7600.256 and Aux 7.6.7600.320 shown in the log.  I was concerned that one of the servers wasn't getting updated properly so I went to do a manual update through Start, Windows Update, check online and it prompts me to update the Windows Update software in order to check for updates.

I have all Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 machines.  What version of the Update client should be installed.  If it should be 7.6.7600.320, how do I get it pushed out through WSUS?

In Update Services Console i get everything in English but if i do a Get-WsusClassification i get them in Swedish.

Lets say I want to get on WSUS and create an auto approval rule. How do I force this to apply the rule immediately?

NOT INSTALL the updates but change the updates for the group to approved for install.  I'm wondering how to trigger this in WSUS so for example I can create an auto approve rule.  Set the rule to apply to group and then shut down rule.

How could I troubleshoot & fix this issue?

I was wondering how I could possibly transfer all my computer groups / approval rules to another enterprise WSUS server.

At present a central in-house server is the sole recipient of all external Microsoft updates. But it would be nice to have a secondary (standby) server, but one which also had all the same (or inherited) groups etc.

Would it be possible to build a secondary WSUS server, point it to the 'central' server and synchronise all the update, groups rules - then point it back to Microsoft for all ongoing patches. Would the groups etc be retained or will they get cleaed when a new external source is set?

I am Getting a timeout error when trying to open any of the update links to see or approve the updates

Operating System is Windows 2012 R2 Standard on a virtual machine in VMware. This is the only VM on the stand alone ESXi host. The VM has 8 GB of memory and 4 vCPU x 2.66 GHz

WSUS version 6.3.9600.16384

This is a fresh install and everything is on a single server. I am trying to approve the updates after the first sync. The environment is not very big currently I just have 27 host connecting to this but will scale up to 300.

Please help me overcome this issue.

Hi there, I have WSUS setup to approve Windows Updates for my 2012 servers. Can I use WSUS to approve and install Updates for Office 2013 & IE 10 as well? If so, how? If not, what is other way to install updates for Office 2013 & IE 10?

I open Word -> File -> Account, but I can't find manual update there, so I'm sure how to update it manually.

Hi,

Got mulitple ADR's (W7, W8, Off2010, Off2013, FEP) these run good. Creaate packages and deployments etc. FEP is updated on the Clients. But my required (week install deadline) for the other updates do not appear in the Software Center most of the times (got two Clients which have no issue.)

Application/package/OS deployment is no issue. It's just the updates not appearing in Software Center.

Running SCCM2012R2 CU4, SQL 2012, WSUS 4 on the same Box.

Nothing looks wrong I just don't see updates appearing.

Anyone suggestions.....
