Server 2008 WSUS and Windows 7 clients

$

Hi all

We have just re-installed WSUS on a Server. Our Windows 10 machines seem to be ok, they seem to be checking in to WSUS daily and my test Windows 10 machine seems to be updating, even though I approved 130 updates and it seems to be doing the updates in batches of around 20 or so a day, I can live with this for now.

My problem is my Windows 7 clients. Every single one is showing on the WSUS console as "Not Yet Reported"

On my 2 Windows 7 machines I have run the wuauclt /resetauthorization, reportnow, and detect now commands but no effect. I have also downloaded and installed the new Windows Update Agent on the W7 clients, no effect.

Our WSUS was just downloaded from Microsoft a month ago, 3.2.7600.226. Our server is 2008 R2 Standard SP1.

I would be very grateful for any assistance anyone can offer.

Hello,

As we still have a lot of servers not migrated I have a question:

Does WSUS Server 2018 support Windows Server 2016?

Thanks,

1809 Build Upgrade by WSUS User-Dialogue missing

Hello

1809 BuildUpgrade works fine with WSUS.
I only miss an important dialogue which I get when I update the Build direcly from Microsoft instead from my WSUS.

Question: Does anybodye know how I get this dialogue (Attached) when I deploy the BuildUpgrade by WSUS?

I think with this (nice) dialogue information our enduser know whats happen on theyr machines and have also good possibilities to move the installation/reboot time.

Thank you

Daniel

Auto-Approval of Targeted Windows 10 Feature Updates

$

I have an Auto-Approval rule setup in WSUS with the following conditions set:

- When an update is in Feature Packs, Upgrades

- When an update is in Windows 10

- Approve the update for Deployment Ring2

However, this Auto-Approves, all Windows 10 Upgrades, including:

- x86 / x64

- Consumer Editions / Business Editions

- v1607 / v1703 / v1709 / v1803 / v1809

-en-GB / en-US

Which means, although I am only trying to approve "Windows 10 v1809, x64, en-GB, Business Editions", which would be approx 5GB, it wants to pull down approx 180GB of updates.

There doesn't appear to be any other Product or Category selections that I can make to filter this approval.

Am I limited to manual approvals? In which case, that's a bit crappy from MS. Within SCCM you can filter editions within Windows 10 Servicing Plans.

I keep getting error 80070643 while attempting to install KB4471813 on Windows 2008 r2 64 bit server. I have attempted to install system update readiness tool, and checked system fine integrity with SFC /scannow.  I rebooted in safemode with networking and tried to install.  None of these attempts seemed to have worked.  Is there something else I should try?

Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64-BIT node not showing KB3177467 on the windows update

Hi All,

I have a few Windows 2008 R2 SP1 64-BIT nodes in my environment which are reporting to WSUS which is also running in the same OS. In the windowsupdate.log it seems all are reporting 2 missing patches. And all of them are only able to receive KB4471318 which keeps failing and understand that I would need to install KB3177467 as a prerequisite before KBB4471318 can be installed.

It appears in the WSUS and have been approve to install, but end nodes is not displaying it on the Window update. How do I make it appear via windows update.

Thanks

WSUS - Which Windows 10 chose

Hi,

I would like to implement the WSUS service on a Windows Server 2012 server. I installed the service but now I do not know what to choose in the service itself in the "products and classifications" section in terms of Windows 10. What are the differences between this versions ? I would like WSUS to be able to install the latest version of windows 10, as the new version will appear. Which item to choose?

Windows 10 version 1809 and Later Servicing Drivers
Windows 10 version 1809 and Later Upgrade & Servicing Drivers
Windows 10 Dynamic Update
Windows 10 Feature On Demand
Windows 10 GDR-DU FOD
Windows 10 GDR-DU LP
Windows 10 GDR-DU
Windows 10

I understand that if I have the latest version of W10 1809 on all computers, I have to choose only Windows 10, version 1809 and later, Servicing Drivers in WSUS?

If I had more types of Windows 10 then I have to choose everyone? Or maybe Windows 10 (without any additional descriptions) means all windows?

Windows Update error

I've set up two new 2016 VMs today (terminal servers). I did the initial checks for updates straight from the web and once they were fully patched moved them to WSUS.

Just doing some final checks on them before they go live, and if I go and do a manual update check, both of them show this:

There were problems installing some updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help:

• 2018-05 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2016 for x64-based Systems (KB4103720) - Error 0x8007045b

If I click retry, it then comes back with no updates found, and if I again click check for updates it also reports no updates found.

However, after the next reboot the message about the 2018-05 Cumulative Update is back again.

WSUS is reporting them as up to date.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

As title, compnay have some laptop pc for management grade staffs use but not always in office.

I would like to monitor their update status from WSUS. But those laptop pc not always connect to company network.

Thus, they may not get the latest update constantly.

Therefore, is possible to configure to let those laptop pc update from internal WSUS and MS server if under different network ?

Thanks

DISM cleanup image results in error 6824

I noticed c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder is taking a lot of space.

I run dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup but the task results with error6824:

Error: 6824
The operation cannot be performed because another transaction is depending on the fact that this property will not change.

I found this errors in dism.log:

and this error in CBS.log:

I also noticed that the server tried to install 2018-06 CU many times today which doesn't make sense since the 2019-01 CU was successfully installed last week.

Please advise how to troubleshoot this.

WSUS 2019 Downstreamserver bug - Downstream Computers not available on Upstream

$

Hello,

I think there might be an issue with downstream servers in server wsus 2019.

First I did update my main WSUS to 2019. All Downstream were 2016. After that I was not able to view the complete computer list on the main server. As soon as you choose the “All Computers” or a computer group that is from a downstream server the console crashes. When you delete the downstream server from the “Downstream Servers” section I am able to browse the list again.

After that I decided to reinstall all WSUS Servers with server 2019 even including the main one. And I did again get the error.

Tried it via Powershell gives me the following error.

$wsusserver = "localhost"
[reflection.assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration")
$wsus = [Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.AdminProxy]::getUpdateServer($wsusserver,$False)
$computerScope = New-object Microsoft.UpdateServices.Administration.ComputerTargetScope
$computerScope.IncludeDownstreamComputerTargets = $true
$wsus.GetComputerTargets($computerScope)

Exception calling "GetComputerTargets" with "1" argument(s):"Unable to cast object of type 'System.Guid' to type 'System.String'."

At line:1 char:1

If I choose to not include Downstream Computer Targets it works.

Create a report of computer information from WSUS

Hi,

As far as I know, the WSUS did not have a way to create a report of computer information including name, IP address, make, model, and … as a list. If it is true then I want to know if we can use Windows PowerShell to get this information from WSUS.

Appreciate for any helps.
